I have been getting styled by Renee for two years here in Oahu. She’s so amazing, she came to my house and went through my closet asked about my favorite outfits. After we went through my closet we set a budget and went shopping. I spent around $500 (Honolulu prices) on clothes and have an amazing wardrobe. I can literally wake up and put any of our outfits on and feel ahmazing. I loved it so much I had her style my whole family here’s a photo of us in outfits curated by Renee

I hired Ashley as a wardrobe consultant and found that she is responsive and very good at communicating a plan and setting expectations. She was conscientious about the experience which can be somewhat scary. Ashley helped go through the closet, then it was a day shopping followed up by going back to the closet to organize the new wardrobe. I will continue to work with Ashley. She knows how to help a person look good, feel good and allow them stay within a tight budget. I highly recommend Ashley as a wardrobe consultant.

I will be honest; I was very skeptical about hiring an Image Consultant, let alone someone who is certified as one. However, it turned out to be the best decision that I have made! From the moment I received a quote from Andrew, he was incredibly kind, patient, caring, and a fantastic listener. I have not encountered that type of professionalism in a very long time! You can tell that Andrew has been in the industry for a while and knows precisely what he is doing! Andrew was able to capture the vision for my wardrobe and bring it to life over the internet, without ever meeting me in-person. That surprised me! After having a few experiences with "Wardrobe Consultants," I highly suggest taking the time to find someone who is certified in Image Consulting, Personal Shopping, or both. Andrew has taught me, and given me the tools to learn so much knowledge! I have easily learned double to triple the things from Andrew because he is certified than the previous uncertified Wardrobe Consultants I chose to hire. Long story short, I HIGHLY recommend Andrew to anyone and everyone who is in need of a Personal Stylist/Wardrobe Consultant/Image Consultant! He is worth EVERY PENNY, and I will be back to do business with him! Thank You, Andrew!! -Barbara

Cristina was great to work with. Her style tips really helped me combine new outfits out of my present wardrobe. I wanted this all along instead of scraping it all and starting over. This is a great gift idea for a friend, sister , or other family member. I would recommend Cristina to anyone because she really paid attention to the specifications I had.

As a Mom with three beautiful, rambunctious boys under 4, I just don't have the time to shop for myself like I used to. Like many, I have a work wardrobe I love, and activewear for rough and tumble play with the kids. But nothing in between. I'm tired of ordering ill-fitting clothes on-line and the hassle it is to return things. So I bit the bullet and hired a personal stylist during home leave. Here's what I did: I sent Rose ahead of time a Pinterest board of outfits I liked. We met at Nordstrom's for a 3-hour session. She arrived an hour earlier to pick out outfits for me to try ahead of time. The first jeans I tried on, from Wit and Wisdom, were amazing! I have never been able to find "boyfriend jeans" that fit right, and these did! She also found a pair of dark wash skinny jeans from J Crew that were flattering. These two finds alone, saved time, frustration, and was worth the consult. I then tried on several other jeans/pants/tops, and found a few that I liked, and ruled out others. She found a cute sweater that effortlessly mimics the half tuck. Unfortunately, all of the tops that she picked out were drop waist peplums, that did not hit me at the right place. I am having one altered to raise the peplum to my waist and to insert darts. She also brought out a swingy sweatshirt with ruffle sleeve and hem that I'm surprised I loved. (I normally go for more structured tops). I decided to get it taken in just a tad, and can't wait to wear it! We then went out on the shopping floor to look for more items. Not sure why, but I gravitated to a pair of skinny fatigues by Wit and Wisdom, and gaucho pants. And though I love color, there wasn't anything colorful on the floor. It was all black, navy, neutrals. All in all, I picked up 4 bottoms (3 jeans, 1 pair of red pants), 10 tops, and 4 jackets. While I didn't have time to style them into outfits, they are all basics that I'm confident I can incorporate into my existing weekend wardrobe. Styling these pieces was really more about statement necklaces- which I have plenty of at home.

Working with Liz was an excellent experience that exceeded my expectations. She set up an organized, logical system that I will actually be able to maintain and gives me increased visibility into all of my clothes and accessories. I was super impressed by her creativity and ability to quickly visualize solutions to cluttered, disorganized space. On top of the high quality of work, Liz was super fun to work with!

Do you want to attract the right "kind of woman" for dating? One thing for sure wearing your dress shirt untucked won't do it. Courtney will do it because she knows how to dress a man "First Class". Courtney listens carefully to what you're trying to achieve in selecting your new wardrobe. All your "New Threads" are woven together so you can mix and match your new outfits for different ocasions. Courtney knows some very unique stores to select the right clothes tailored for your body type. You'll look spiffy in a new suit to a more kitschy casual appearance. The first week I wore my new suit to a dance event and the most beautiful exotic woman in the room said to me, "you're the best-dressed man here tonight"! Let's dance.

I hired Elephant in the Room Design to be my Wardrobe Consultants, to help me build a wardrobe that reflected my personality and get a good sense of what clothes go together. The owners, Morgan and Lex, were very communicative. They were prepared with quotes, detailed descriptions of their services, and they talked me through their process. The consultation was laid back and fun, and I felt like I was heard, especially in regards to designs and clothes to stay away from. During the shopping experience, they were supportive and did not pressure me to buy anything I was not 100% sure about. I am a very picky person, so I didn't wind up buying a whole lot, but Morgan and Lex gave me some good online resources, a shopping list, the beginnings of a lookbook that will get bigger as I gain more clothes, and the promise to stay in touch and guide me as I piece together my wardrobe. Overall, a really enjoyable experience!

Whether for festivities or an ordinary Tuesday, the perfect products can be found for you, efficiently and hassle-free -- all the while you are going about your day. * Graphic design - I usually don't advertise myself as this, and I don't call myself a graphic designer, but I recently have had a lot of fun working on invites, business cards and branding, if you're interested (depending on your needs).

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I find a personal stylist?

To find a fashion consultant, start by browsing portfolios online. Styling is a visual art, so finding a fashion consultant who fits the style you desire is key. Great personal stylists aren’t confined to one style, but if you’re seeking a hipper, fashion-forward vibe, you’d do well to find someone with a modern portfolio, while a fashion consultant with a consistently refined style could be a better fit if you’d prefer a more conservative look. Reading reviews is also helpful for learning more about the fashion consultant. Research their training, background and years of experience. After reviewing websites and Instagram accounts, meet with the stylist in person to learn how well they fit your personality; some fashion consultants offer a free phone consultation prior to hiring. Before hiring, make sure you clearly understand their terms of service and payment.

      What do image consultants do?

Image consultants help people look and feel their best by coaching them on their clothing and beauty choices. An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion, such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot. The consultant will recommend clothing, hair and makeup to suit the occasion either using either what the client owns or taking a targeted shopping trip. For a complete fashion consultation, the image consultant will assess your wardrobe, your lifestyle, and what you hope to present to the world, and will then determine the best colors, styles and cuts for you. You can get help streamlining your professional appearance, adjusting your style after a change in body size, solidifying a new look, or finding clothing to fit one area of your life like work or weekends. Image consultants also provide closet edits, going through your clothing and paring out what isn’t right for the look you’re trying to achieve. Personal shopping is another service that image consultants provide. After an image assessment, they can either shop with you or shop on your behalf to find you key pieces you need.

      What is a fashion consultant?

A fashion consultant is a paid professional who will advise you on what to wear and how to wear it to fit your desired lifestyle or career goals. A fashion consultant can provide many services including personal shopping, closet audits, beauty consultations, style consultations and ongoing seasonal services. A fashion consultant often has a design or fashion background (although this is not required) and an innate sense of style. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with the colors, cuts and designs we think suit us. A fashion consultant comes in with fresh eyes and provides constructive feedback to guide your style choices.

During your initial meeting, your fashion consultant will take stock of your current clothing selection and learn what you hope to achieve. They’ll identify core wardrobe pieces you need, as well as advise you how to wear items together. Many consultants create style lookbooks for their clients explaining things like exactly which shoes to wear with what pants and how to accessorize each look. Fashion consultants are a great option for people who are updating their style due to age, career changes or body changes, or who are just ready for a new look and feel. Most fashion consultants charge by the hour, with some offering packages and others working from a retainer.

      What is a personal shopper?

Personal shoppers take the pain out of having good fashion. Personal shoppers are paid professionals who work with women, men or children who need style assistance. If you are stuck in a fashion rut, are unsure how to dress in a way that flatters your body, need to revamp your image, or want a more professional career look, personal shoppers can help. Personal shoppers identify the look their client wants to achieve and purchase the necessary clothing and accessories to achieve it. The process often begins with an initial consultation with the client to understand their style goals. This consultation may include a closet “audit,” an assessment of the client’s current wardrobe to see what items can be eliminated and what must be purchased to achieve the desired style.

The client and the personal shopper can shop together, selecting items as a team. The personal shopper may also shop on behalf of the client, then bring all items to the client for a final decision. A third option is pre-shopping, where the personal shopper reaches the store(s) ahead of the client and sets aside clothing for the client to try on, expediting the whole process — a win for anyone who hates spending time in the mall. Personal shoppers can also be hired for one-time events such as weddings, vacations or birthdays. You can also enlist a personal shopper to do your gift shopping for you. Overall, a personal shopper is an investment in making good style choices.
