I hired Tony originally to do interior painting in the upstairs for a house I am selling. It was a rental and was in rough shape. Tony went above and beyond in helping me prep it to sell. I also live in a difference state and he was more than accommodating for my situation. In addition to painting (which was fantastic!), he also did landscaping such as lawn mowing, weed whacking, trimming of bushes, and gutter cleaning. He also got me the right tools for a dehumidifier I had running improperly and was able to take care of some other minor things in the home that made a BIG difference. The first showing I had after he finished his work, I got a full price offer. I had 8 showings before that and no offers. I have one more rental I plan to sell in the next year or two, and I will not be considering anyone else.

Gary and Mike arrived exactly when they said they would and did a quick and thorough job cleaning my gutters. I have a 2 story house with gutters packed full of Black Walnut leaves nuts and stems. Everthing was cleaned out and cleaned up. I've had people do the job in the past and leave all of the debris on the ground, not with Gary and Mike. I also asked if they could clean off the garage roof and they did it for no extra charge. I highly recommend Van Vorous Painting LLC, if you want great job done at a great price.

The crew was very responsive and courteous and did a great job. They let us know they were running a bit behind schedule the day of. They were thorough with the cleaning (we had some muddy water flood our basement) and even cleaned our windows, shower, toilet, etc. I would highly recommend.

Painting and Beyond did an excellent job of painting our house and will recommend them to anyone. Not only did they put up with us with three color changes until we where satisfied but re-nailed many boards. They power washed the entire house and did caulking where needed. The price was also reasonable.

FENCE AND EXTERIOR PAINTING Awesome job! Hired Steamatic to install a 250 ft wood fence and dog enclosure. Bo gave me the best price and we picked out the materials for the fence and dog run together. Everything was delivered to our house in 10 days. (The crew even came out after delivery to put the supplies in the garage because of rain) The fence was up in a week and the dog run soon after that. We are very pleased with the workmanship of the crew and Bo was overseeing the project on a daily basis. With that said I asked if they did house painting. We picked out a house color in a darker shade then the fence with the trim the same color as the fence. Again everything was great and the curb appeal quite attractive. I highly recommend Steamatic and would use them in future home improvement projects. Cliff A

This was the best experience we've had with having work done on our house. Absolute professionalism, clean, tidy and always punctual. They did a fabulous job of painting the outside of our house and then painting the interior. We are thrilled. They knew exactly what they were doing and had all the tools they needed. Such nice guys too. We will not hesitate to recommend them and they will be our 'go to' guys in the future. Thank you IHOR.

I have used MJI services regularly for the past three years and they are always on time, reliable and thorough. They provide cleaning and painting services in the apartment buildings that I manage and always do a great job. They work fast and leave apartments looking brand new. If there is ever something that is missed or that needs another coat, MJI is happy to return promptly and take care of it. They always make sure the customer is happy with the final product. They are a great company to use!

We found Weston online, after further review of his credentials we decided to contact Weston in which a prompt response resulted in a scheduled meeting. We had no idea what we wanted as a decor and this brilliant artist came up with this unique suggestion. We and others are simply amazed with the wall art he designed to fit us and our new home. We can't thank him enough for taking on this project! Best of luck, Nancy and Tom Chisholm

Steve has done two jobs in our house. I consider myself a VERY particular person, and he met all my expectations. He was very responsive, did great work, and was tidy - literally not a speck of paint to clean up after him. He did a tricky wall and ceiling patch job for us and a whole room painting. After the whole room job, I ended up hating the color, and he rearranged his schedule to come back only 1 day later and do a new color. I also referred him to a friend who bought a new house and she had him paint the whole thing with good results. Highly recommend!

We hired Serna to paint our basement and could not be happier with the finished product. Rangel is extremely detail oriented and didn't blink an eye in fixing numerous imperfections that he discovered in our walls that were caused by the previous owners. He was respectful of our time constraints. He also made suggestions on how to use accent paint to make the basement look even better. I would highly recommend Serna and plan to use them again on my next paint project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.
