Paul was very prompt and professional. Roofing was replaced and Paul worked to fix a leak around my chimney and roof vent and cleaned the gutters. Paul also guaranteed his work for five years and will come back twice a year to clean the gutters at no extra charge. I would definitely hire Paul again if needed.

I have a 3 car garage, and there was considerable damage to one side of the roof due to no venting. The crew showed up at 7:45, got their equipment set up and within 20 minutes, had stripped all of the shingles. The side with the most damage ended up having to remove all of the decking. They were very efficient in their work, and the total time from start to finish was a little over 7 hours. They made sure that they had cleaned up everything, including all the nails, and they left the site looking better than when they showed up. I will post photos later when I get them.

Adam and his team did a great job. They tore off two layers of old roofing, removed my chimney because I didn't need it anymore and installed a roof vent. Adam was more than wiling to work with me on matching the garage roof. He used excellent quality shingles. Everything was cleaned up extremely well. I am hoping to have Adam and his team back to install siding on my home. I have confidence they will do the best job.

I hired Bill to repair/replace some doors, install a sink, paint and a few other small odd jobs around my house. He did a nice job on the work and the cost of his service was very reasonable. I think he might have gotten the job done a little faster if he put in full days and had his girlfriend not come with him to work every day, but overall, I am very satisfied with the job.

Chris repaired some holes we had around the chimney and dormer on our roof. We contacted him on short notice and he was able to come out within a week and fix everything. Price was very reasonable. Work was all good quality. We'd definitely recommend him to family and friends.

I received a call from the company on the day of the scheduled visit saying that the tech was able to come out 2 hours earlier than originally expected. Alex was efficient and concise and didn't give me a hard time about spending over an hour on the roof just LOOKING for the correct HVAC unit since it wasn't labeled. He identified the problem, quickly went to the nearest store to purchase supplies and had our AC back up and running in no time. It was pricey, however I have no idea what the ballpark cost on our repairs would have been so we could have been getting a great deal. Who knows!

Matt showed up right on time and did a great job cleaning the gutters on our house. He went above and beyond and cleaned off some extra sticks/leaves on the roof so the gutters wouldn't get re-clogged right away. Very professional - I'd recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat. Thanks again!

FENCE and ROOF My husband and I purchased a 1950's mid century modern ranch style house this winter. Although we knew the roof was in need of repair, the expense of moving and other repairs had us put a new roof on hold. Unfortunately the mild winter brought rain so we contacted Bo at Steamatic for an estimate. (Recommended by a friend) Additionally we needed a fence for our labrador, Maxie. Steamatic offered us a bundle discount for the roof and chain link fence. I'm pleased with the service and professional attitude of the crew members. Alex was really great and kept me informed everyday of the progress of the projects .I later learned they are a family based company which was nice because they cared about the overall experience. We were asked for just a down payment where many other companies wanted all monies upfront for supplies and labor. The remaining balance we split between a credit card and check which really helped us because our initial plan was to install the roof at a later date. I highly recommend Steamatic and ask for Alex to be your crew leader! P Olsen- West Bend

I had two other contractors attempt to fix a roof leak. I need to replace the roof but I wanted to wait until spring. Martin actually fixed it right and it has stayed dry through a couple of months of heavy rains. Very reasonable price too.

Bulldog Builders did a great job on our turret repair. We had a bad leak on a very steep roof that met up at the turret. Bulldog Builders scheduled our repair very quickly, to avoid more damage to our home (we had water leaking down walls upstairs from snow melt) and the job was expertly finished in 1 day. They have an expert staff that went above and beyond to help out our family. Bulldog Builders were polite, friendly and professional, they were punctual and did a great job on our repair. They had to remove old shake and asphalt shingles, as well as a bad patch job with rotted metal and wood. They did a custom roof repair to angle water from the trouble spot where water was pooling, using quality materials to complete the job, which came with an excellent warranty. We are extremely happy with the job that was done by bulldog builders, and will call for future projects on our home.

In August 2014, many homes in our neighborhood were replacing their roof or siding. I discovered that a storm had damaged many homes in our area. One neighbor shared that Paradise had replaced her siding and that she was extremely pleased with the work they did. I called Paradise and had a wonderful experience. One of their salesmen came to the house and met with the insurance agent and myself. Paradise was able to replace the siding and stay within the amount of money we were given. In addition, the job had to be done within a short time frame. Paradise had a crew at our house within a week. The workers were very professional, cleaned up everyday and completed the job within three days. Our home looks like a new construction. We were extremely pleased.

I wasn't able to be there in person the day that Rescue my Roof installed my roof. However, I got an excellent roof in 1 day. My yard was spotless - to this day, I haven't even found a nail or fragment of a shingle in my yard. The price was also fantastic.

I needed someone to install heating cables on a portion of the roof of a rental property. Gary communicated often and well. I felt that he wanted a successful project. He set expectations when I changed the project spec a bit. He viewed the effort as a priority, such that he started and completed the project in poor weather (beating the snow the next day). I would hire him again.

We hired Badger Contracting to do our roofs on our rental property when a leak occurred a week before Thanksgiving, they were comparable in price to other local companies, but they were able to complete the work before the end of the year, with the exception of our flat roof area that require a special treatment that requires warmer weather. Those areas are scheduled to be done in the spring. They completed the work on the house roof and both garages in less than 48 hours. The only negative thing I could say is it took them over a week to pick up the extra materials left sitting on our front lawn.

Garrett and his crew did a great job installing a rubber roof on our house. They were priced right, were on time, and completed the job in less time that we anticipated and left no mess, I'm glad we went with them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
