Ben did a great job – better than the original installation. He came back a couple times to install drywall behind the vanity, sand it, and paint it. I am thrilled with his work.

We were so happy to have found Tony when we were looking for someone to paint our house. He painted the exterior and a few ceilings inside our home. He was fast and extremely pleasant. We even needed him to come back to patch some areas because of an unexpected snow storm and he made us a priority. I will recommend him all day every day.

We hired Gilbert to remove wallpaper, texturizing the walls and paint the ceilings and walls. While he did an excellent job, I had asked for the fee on the high end so I wouldn't have any unexpected costs. He ended up charging an additional $100 to put a second layer of paint in one of the bathrooms. He explained why (had to do with caulking that could not be painted). I would hire Gilbert again, but get in writing the cost to get the work done. Gilbert did offer me a written quote, but I felt we had covered all the costs when he gave me the estimate.

The price was reasonable - 2 day job to paint roughly 1,000 square feet of wall / ceiling space - 2 coats plus a couple small dry wall repairs. Friendly. They showed up on time and did a great job. Moved furniture & pictures from the walls that were too large for me to move. Returned all furniture and pictures to their locations. Cleaned up from day one to day two. I would rehire for another painting job.

If there is ever something that is missed or that needs another coat, MJI is happy to return promptly and take care of it. They always make sure the customer is happy with the final product. They are a great company to use!

She was very professional and arrived when she said she would be there. No paint on any of the trim, and ceiling was so straight it looked like she had used a ruler!!!! Kept at the job until it was done. Very fast & thorough. Looks like it walked out of House Beautiful magazine! Would definitely recommend her.

Chris did an excellent job fixing my living and dining room ceiling's plaster. He taped, mudded, sanded and painted in 3 days. And he worked hard and consistently until the job was completed. I have no issues recommending or hiring him again should the need arise.

These ladies were the best. I've been hoping to have my sunroom painted for the longest time and I couldn't be happier with the results. As an older, single woman I've been hesitant about hiring any stranger to do the job, so I frankly felt more comfortable counting on 2 ladies. Kate and Emily really make a great team- they were so friendly and FAST! I will definitely be having them paint my spare bedrooms in the future.

I had the good fortune of discovering Roerdink Remodel through a business associate in the spring of 2017. At the time, what I needed was a handyman for a new investment property, and Dan Roerdink quickly showed his skill, professionalism, timeliness, insight, and good humor. Since then, I've purchased another investment property, this time a 2-Family, and Dan has become my right-hand man. He's done everything from plaster repair to custom carpentry, light electrical to plumbing, custom door framing / cutting / installation, window replacement, painting and lighting. Dan is truly an excellent contractor, a cut above the rest. Several of my clients in Property Management are now hiring him as well, with equally impressive results. If you're fortunate enough to find Dan with time in his schedule for your project, I would seize the opportunity! Feel free to contact me via Facebook for my business with any questions or to confirm the veracity of this review. - Kurt P. Coffin, Owner of Summit Property Management of Sheboygan.

They were so wonderful to work with! They arrived every morning bright and early at the exact time they said they would, they worked hard all day long, and they made our house look beautiful! we found a paint color for our house as well as a trim color we liked, and he was more than happy to help us achieve the look. Along the way, communication was great. They would ask if they had any questions about the house and they gave suggestions when we needed it. I will hands down be recommending them to anybody that needs an exterior paint job!

Jessalyn just painted the entire interior of our home. To say that the job was perfect is being modest. She worked very hard to ensure that we were pleased. The price was more than affordable, the attention to detail was the very best, every interaction was pleasant and professional and the work was completed ahead of schedule. I highly recommend!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
