This husband and wife team did a great job on our cedar deck. They power washed, sanded and stained it at a very affordable price. Scott was great at keeping in communication with us as we navigated the changes in weather that impacted the project. They were a pleasure to work with. We would highly recommend them.

I hired General Roofing after meeting with Vasyl. He was very informative of the process and not a pushy salesman. I had hail and wind damage and had to work with my insurance company. Vasyl and his team showed up timely and cleaned up great. After tearing off the top layers, roofers often find damaged sections of the wood sheathing which must be replaced before the new roofing goes on. However, he told me I did not need to have the wood replaced because it was in good condition. I had roofing done prior 13+ years ago and I believe the roofing co I used at that time took advantage because they added many additional costs in this area not covered. I ran into time delays with the insurance company and Vasyl has worked with me all along the way. I would highly recommend Vasyl and his team at General Roofing. Reliable and honest! Lise T.

My company built several additions onto a existing ranch house which required removal and replacement of shingles as well as new shingles on the additions. Tom's bid was competitive and his team of roofers did an efficient job of completing the entire job in less than two days. Where they discovered some roof sheathing issues they shared them and then repaired/corrected them. Nice job the Owners really like their new roof that covers their newly remodeled home.

We had a leaking roof, and Jeff promptly came over and inspected our roof thoroughly, both from above and from inside the attic, and offered us multiple options and quotes on repairing versus replacing the roof. We ultimately went with replacing the roof. The installation process went smoothly. Jeff was very considerate, respectful and professional. He is also very enthusiastic about his work and is generous in sharing his knowledge and explaining what he does. Our roof ended up costing ~$2000 less than another quote we got that offered us the exact same shingles And from seeing how Jeff does his work I'm pretty sure I ended up getting not only a better price, but better workmanship as well. If you're looking for a roofer/handyman who takes pride of his craft, genuinely cares about his customers and would fix/improve their dwellings as if it's his own, Jeff is definitely your guy.

Lonestar Roofing was great. Sam and Steve are awesome. We had some major ice damming and subsequent leaks into all six townhouse units during the snow storm of February 8th and 9th. Sam responded immediately to my call and Steve was out within the hour. We had a quote within an hour after that and they started work the next day. We would not have made it through that emergency without them. I had called multiple roofers that day and many returned my call after Lonestar had completed all of the work. They take pictures while they are working so that you know exactly what is going on during all phases of your project from the damage to the repairs to the finished product. I highly recommend them.

Wow! We had Claudio knock down the wall separating the kitchen from the living room and he had it down in two days! We ran into some hiccups with pipes and wiring and he was able to work it all out. The end product was beautiful- we've already gotten quite a few compliments on the work he did. He even offered to paint the walls where we worked for an affordable rate. I would definitely recommend.

He can do many different things so if you are looking for a handyman, I would highly recommend him. He does go above and beyond to help you. His prices are very affordable and he was very neat and careful of our kitchen floor while working. We are very happy to have found him.

Needed to replace a 25 year old roof, gutters and downspouts. Contacted Steamatic-GTC home improvement for a quote. Had 4 other quotes from Thumbtack and Bo beat the lowest price. They installed an asphalt roof with gutters downspouts and new trim(ours was rotted). Came home from work on their last day of installation and everything was done. We did a final check with Bo and are very happy with our new roof. Contact them if you want a good price for any home projects-great price, good tradesmen. Bill T

After soliciting four estimates from different companies, I selected All Weather because they offered the best overall proposal. Pete was great to work with, very accommodating and his crew did a great job on the roof and cleaned up very well afterwards, including removing the roof debris from the gutters. Also, throughout the process, Pete suggested several ways to keep costs down and did not propose any superfluous add-ons or work. Pete is now my go-to roof guy! I would recommend this company to anyone that needs a honest opinion and a affordable solution for there roofing needs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
