Our daughter (Kivi) started with the recorder in 4th grade, and soon graduated to clarinet. By Middle School, she was taking lessons from a classical teacher who advanced her skills markedly. Upon reaching high school, she was in demand by the jazz band - whose leader persuaded her to take up the saxophone. Kivi loved the sax, and loved jazz, but clarinet remained her first instrument. I thought of the great jazz clarinet players: Pete Fountain at the top of a substantial list. But we could find no one who could teach jazz clarinet. Finally, we attended an event at VanderCook, and one of the presenters gave us Jon's name. Kivi studied with Jon for about two years. I was disappointed with the amount of time Kivi had to spend practicing Jon's lessons - what high schooler has time for anything? Nevertheless, Kivi learned a great deal from Jon, and was the only student to ever perform a clarinet solo in our high school's jazz band history ("Jack the Bear"). Jon was unique in my experience in that he taught what Kivi wanted to learn - rather than imposing a rigid course of instruction. If you are considering private lessons that offer something both valuable and unique, please look no further than Jon Novi.

Guy Fiorentini has been my guitar teacher for several years... When I started, i knew nothing about guitar except I liked it. I have learned about music technically, and aesthetically and how to make music ... on the guitar! He has introduced me to many talented musicians as well as his own Milwaukee Hot Club... (awesome). There was/ is so much more to learn; rhythm, chords, ear training... especially ear training.. He challenges me at each lesson and the motivation is there all the time. I want to succeed and he motivates me to no end... A great teacher! A great person as well!!!

Mike is very knowledgeable and great at putting the information into a context that you can understand. He clearly has a knack for teaching guitar. I'm taking advanced lessons and feel like I already learned a lot just in our 1hr consultation. I'm looking forward to continue working with him and definitely suggest him to anyone looking to learn guitar. Having lessons in a studio is also a big bonus!

Ms. David gave piano lessons to my two boys when they were in grade school. We owe a lot to her as she discovered my sons' talent for music and inspired them to continue pursuing music even as young adults.

Coltyn is Awesome! My son loves going to lessons! He explains things in a simple way that my son has really latched on to. Already I can hear improvements in my sons singing and we have only had a few lessons! I would give more then 5 stars if I could!

David has been a great drum teacher for my two kids, ages 5 and 7 (started when 4 and 6). He was very patient with them tailored the instruction to their abilities. I am a semi-professional musician (played in touring indie band) and therefore appreciated David's mix of formal music instruction (i.e. sight reading and annotation) and "jamming" (forming intrinsic feel). Highly recommend David.

Dean has been a highly respected member of the Milwaukee jazz community for several decades. As one of his many fans, I have particularly enjoyed his versatility in addition to his musicality and technical expertise. Dean is adept in virtually every jazz setting - including those where he must also provide the bass part. In 2005, I hired Dean as the piano instructor and combo coach for my newly formed Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Jazz Studies Program. It was immediately apparent that Dean is an excellent teacher as well. While his highly developed skills and talents are obvious, his humility, gentle demeanor, patience and caring spirit put students at ease. In the spring of 2017, Dean was still creating that ideal learning environment for students enrolled in MYSO Jazz Studies. In addition to his talents as a performer and teacher, Dean is well read, intellectually curious and conversant on a wide variety of topics – an excellent resource for young minds.

I took voice lessons from Kristen to improve my Indian classical repertoire. Despite having no prior experience with the style, she was able to isolate what type of voice exercises I need to do to improve upon the same. I saw clear improvement by the end of the semester and I enjoyed every lesson. What I appreciate the most, is that Kristen tailored the lessons to suit my experience and results. Highly recommend and look forward to taking lessons from her again!

Began piano lessons with Clara as a mature adult. She is extremely patient and highly skilled at breaking things down to smaller, more achievable goals. Enjoyed each lesson and opportunities to play with others.

My daughter has studied with Leiko for five years. She absolutely loves her as a teacher and looks forward to lesson time with her every week. I know some children get bored with piano lessons with their teachers and they want to quit after awhile. Leiko has kept my daughter interested in playing and learning throughout the years. She is becoming a real pianist and artist thanks to her teacher!
