Very happy with Jeff - always on time and always flexible with his schedule. My daughter is being tutored for ACT but recently took the SAT and said that the things Jeff taught her were helpful there as well.

We worked together for about 4 hours over 2 sessions to get myself ready for the GRE. We used a variety of materials, including websites, prep books, and lessons at my home to help get me prepared for all the sections of the exam. Throughout the lessons, Steve kept detailed notes on my performance to help track improvement and keep me updated on my progress. I have yet to take the test, but I have a much more solid idea of how to prepare for it, and he was able to handle all of the different scheduling challenges I had for prep. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Excellent ACT/SAT tutor I was referred Dr. Reetika by another mom from my sons class. She truly helped shape his career. She helped my son to prepare both for ACT and SAT to identify which works better for him. In the end my son took both the exams and did well on them. There were times that I had difficulty keeping him accountable but Reetika had a good balance of being a tutor and sounding board for my advice. I recommend Reetika to anyone needing help in test prep or honors classes of their kid

I wish I could give these guys 100 stars. Dan was extremely helpful. My son had a very low SAT score. Brian met with Dan a few hours every week.  His score jumped up over 400 points.

Ms.Conrad was my 10th grade English teacher as well as my PSAT/SAT tutor. She was a phenomenal teacher who helped me grow not only as a student, but also as a person. Her bubbly and easy-going personality made working with her fun and enjoyable. Her caring nature made me feel like if I never needed someone to talk to I could turn to her. Being a junior, I had to get ready to take college admission tests, but with all new changes and all the different types of tests, I had no idea where to start. Luckily for me, Ms.Conrad was offering SAT/ACT/PSAT tutoring over the summer of my sophomore year. I was so excited to get a opportunity to work her again, I started immediately. She was really flexible and was always understanding of any difficulties or questions I had. She really brought out the best in me through each session so we accomplished every meeting. Now I can't wait to take my PSAT because, thanks to her, I feel confident and well prepared for it. I had also tried preparing for the PSAT through learning centers such as Sylvan, but the results and growth were nowhere near the same as working with Ms.Conrad. To the learning centers I was just another student, but Ms.Conrad really honed in on my strengths and weaknesses, she individualized my lesson plans so that whatever skills I, personally, struggled with she would help me improve on them. Her approach to the lessons made it so easy to follow and understand. I'm so thankful I worked with her because she did an amazing job and is definitely perfect fit for anyone looking for English or SAT/PSAT tutoring!

My daughter received excellent score of 780(scale of 800) on New SAT-Math thanks to Mr. Patel's expertise. Her previous score was 610. We were struggling to find the teacher for New SAT. She is not fond of word problems and gets frustrated. But Mr. Patel was able to make concepts much simpler and easier to understand. We also signed up for his College Consulting Service, where his team of professional coaches work with us one on one at a fraction of the cost. We are very satisfied and definitely refer Mr. Patel to my friends and family. Thanks Mr. Patel for your support.

I could not have been happier with the results from using More Than S.A.T. in preparation for the ACT. While my older children had used other prep courses for the ACT with satisfactory results, I decided to make a change for my youngest child. More Than S.A.T. had a more unique approach to studying for the ACT. More Than S.A.T’s academic coach was able to tailor a study program specific to my son’s strengths and weaknesses. What’s more, the consultant’s suggestions as to how to manage the test, while taking it, were very beneficial. The result: a 6 point increase. Thank you, More Than S.A.T.!

Look no further! Peter is an amazing tutor! Peter brought my 10th grade student's math grade from a D to an A in 2 weeks. My son just needed to see the material in a different way. Peter picked up on that fact immediately. It was truly something. I have always sensed Peter to be invested in the results and I am grateful for that. We currently use Peter for SAT tutoring. I cannot imagine anyone better suited for the task. Congrats to you for finding him; he's a gem.

Charlie tutored my son for the ACT and did an exceptional job. He worked with him both on general test taking skills as well as the specific areas where he needed the most help. Charlie is great at working with boys who do not have the longest attention span, as well as those who may not feel they "need" tutoring. He really caters his tutoring style to what he believes will work best for that student. Charlie is also very flexible and was able to work in tutoring time around my son's other activities. After working with Charlie, my son felt much more confident in his ability to do well on the test and improved his scores significantly in all areas. We will be using him again for my daughter in a couple of years.

How do you study for the SAT?

Your SAT prep strategy can mean the difference between a great score and a mediocre score, as well as the difference between being accepted to or rejected by your school of choice. The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is a college entrance exam that measures a student’s knowledge and understanding of what they have learned up to this point in school and what they need to succeed in college. In addition to arming students with the knowledge they need to excel in the math, reading and writing components of the test, SAT prep can help improve scores by teaching students crucial strategies for taking the test itself. Professional SAT prep tutors can work with students one-on-one or in group sessions. Typically, tutors recommend that students who are comfortable and caught up with their regular schooling begin SAT prep at least three months before the test. If you’re targeting an elite school, six months before the test is a good time to begin. Students who are behind in school are advised to start early to ensure they’re caught up and feeling confident in all the relevant subjects. Suggestions for long-term SAT prep include taking challenging high school courses, completing all homework assignments, preparing for class tests and quizzes, and participating in class by asking and answering questions. There are free SAT prep training tools online; for those who’d like a one-on-one tutor to take them to the next level, the national average rate is $70 per hour.

When should you start preparing for the SAT?

It’s never too early to start preparing for college entrance exams, but professional tutors recommend a baseline of at least three months before the test. The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is the gold standard for college admissions, and SAT prep is important for doing well. Your child’s SAT scores will have a major effect on which colleges send acceptance letters. Professional tutors can work with your kids to coach them on how to take the SAT, as well as studying the actual academic content. Doing well on the SAT is as much about knowing the right test-taking strategies as about having a firm grasp of the subject matter.

To understand your student’s readiness for the SAT, they can take the pre-SAT (PSAT) starting in their sophomore year. SAT prep can be structured around the student’s PSAT scores, so tutors can address any challenges and weak subject areas. If your child has their sights set on an Ivy League or elite school, SAT prep with a tutor or study program should start at least six months before the test. Vocabulary is a key element of the student’s SAT preparation and success. The national average rate for SAT prep tutoring is $70 per hour.

What is in the SAT test?

As your child is preparing for the SAT, it’s helpful to know the specifics of the test. The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is made up of three main categories and one optional essay. Students have a total of three hours to take the test, with an additional 50 minutes for the optional essay. In total, there are 154 questions. During SAT prep, it’s helpful to take timed practice exams to understand how you’ll do during the actual test. Here is a brief overview of each of the four categories:

      • Reading: 65 minutes with 52 questions. The Reading test measures command of evidence, words in context, analysis in history and social studies, and analysis in science.
      • Writing and Language: 35 minutes with 44 questions. The Writing and Language test covers the same topics as Reading, as well as expression of ideas and standard English conventions.
      • Math: 80 minutes with 58 questions. The Math test looks at the student’s understanding of algebra, problem-solving and data analysis, and advanced math in the context of fluency, conceptual understanding, and applications.
      • Essay (optional): 50 minutes with 1 essay. The essay will demonstrate the student’s competency with writing, analysis and reading.
