Introduction: Teaching guitar is how I make my living and I've been doing it for 14 years now. I teach on average 50 students a week. Over the years I have honed my skills to know exactly how to teach all levels of guitar. I take pride in seeing all my students succeed. I'm also the lead guitarist and main songwriter in my rock band Mickey Magnum. We have two full length albums out now. My guitar knowledge goes beyond just teaching. I can help you with songwriting, preparing for the studio, and crafting a great tone.

My wife gave me a guitar lesson with Steve for Christmas and I started taking them in February. I'm a total music misfit - never played an instrument and I never paid attention to music theory. Steve is teaching me the basics of both. He is an impressive musician and is able to tailor is craft to help me start to learn the guitar. I'm in my 50s and he seems able to help people my age and older as well as the younger students. I could never be at the point I'm at without his help and I need an instructor like him to monitor and provide feedback for what I'm doing right and wrong and keep me moving forward. If you are thinking about learning an instrument I highly recommend Steve. I'm super glad I got that Christmas gift.

I have recently retired and one of my goals after retirement was to learn how to play the guitar. We recently moved to Madison from San Antonio, Texas where I took lessons for eight months. I've been taking lessons with Steve Anthes for approximately six weeks and have learned more and progressed further in that time than when I was in Texas. Steve approaches music, regardless of who is teaching, as something that should be fun and enjoyable for the student. He is patient and encouraging and tailor's your lessons not only to your interests but also your skill level. I've seen him work with students of all ages and no one is disappointed. I can't recommend Steve enough as a guitar teacher for anyone who wants to learn a few songs to strum at home to those who want to be the next Stevie Ray Vaughn. Chuck Cook (63 years old)

I decided I wanted to take lessons and did an internet search of best guitar lessons in Madison, Steve came up. I took lessons for a number of months from him and was more than satisfied. He is a true professional as he is an amazing guitarist and also an amazing teacher. He's always calm, patient, informative and guides the lessons based on what the student wants to learn. He's also very down to Earth. For me, it felt more like going to a friend's house to work on guitar even though I didn't know him previously to taking lessons. I had to take a small break from lessons for my own reasons but fully intend on going back to Steve and continuing when I'm able to. I can't recommend him enough, high marks in all categories.
