Meadowsweet is great! My daughter has been taking lessons since she was four years old, she is now almost 11. Kathy is patient and one of the kindest people I know. We have learned riding by building a relationship with the horse, grooming, caring for your horse and of course safety..and look forward to much much more!

We made plans for a trip and then learned that our cat sitter, a neighbor, would not be available. We came to Thumbtack for help and Susan responded promptly. After talking to her on the phone we felt comfortable and invited her to visit us and our kitty. We became completely comfortable after meeting her and her husband. She took excellent care of our cat while we were away. We will definitely hire her again.

Fantastic pet sitter, was able to create a bond with our VERY picky cat. Always sends us updates at the start and end of the visits. I know our cats are in good hands and that she won't hesitate to contact us if there are questions.

Riding Lessons, Carolyn’s skills are outstanding. She listens carefully to what you want out of your lesson and will assist you on reaching that goal. She is always there to encourage and teach. Teaching and sharing the knowledge she has of horses is something she loves to do. The passion she has for the animals and the humans riding them is exceptional. Debbie was very reliable and even sent us some photos while we were away. She came over for a meet & greet prior to hiring her officially and she also did her research on our pets too. Debbie definitely went the extra mile to make our pets comfortable while we were away. I definitely recommend her and we hope to work with her again in the future. Thanks so much. She truly is a "Pet Sitter Extraordinaire." =)

What can I say about Cassie that could actually express how wonderful she is?? First of all, my husband surprised me with a riding lesson for my 30th birthday. I am Now 33 and own a horse at Cassie's barn. That can probably tell you how amazing she is. She really genuinely cares about her riders, she loves to see people happy, she is generous and fun. Take all these qualities that make her a good person and then put them into a trainer who has such unbelievable talent. She has a way teaching that is so effective. I could go on and on, but one lesson with her and you will see!!

I am what I guess you'd call a "one man band". When you hire me, you get ME every visit meaning I am the only person with your key and I make the visits personally. Some services have different employees coming and going in and out of your home or apt. I certainly would not like that at all. I do have 2 extremely reliable people as backup in the unlikely event I would become ill while you are away.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

      • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
      • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
        • 45-minute visit: $28.
        • 60-minute visit: $32.
      • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
      • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
        • 12 hours: $100.
        • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32.
