Introduction: I offer 30, 45 and 60 minute piano lessons; I teach music theory and performance. I work with my students on major and minor scales, chord progressions, arpeggios, duets and performance techniques among other things. I was raised in an atmosphere of music. My father was an accomplished pianist who played professionally earlier in his life. When I was growing up, he worked with computers as a systems analyst. Our house was filled with the sound of his playing many types of music, including classical and jazz. He often improvised the pieces for our entertainment. I had some lessons as a child, but I had not developed that skill earlier in my life. At the age of 47, the opportunity presented itself for me to play a baby grand and I began taking lessons with Rachel Bonner. She guided me through a series of books that covered both piano basics and theory. We also have delved into classical and Christmas music, along with exercises in arranging and transposing various pieces. After a few years, she moved. Not just across town, but over 1,000 miles away. Thanks to the capability of modern technology, we have seamlessly continued our lessons using Skype. Rachel is extremely knowledgeable, talented, and skilled as a pianist. She has never been without a helpful answer or encouraging feedback. She is one of the best teachers and mentors I have ever had and I believe she is a great value to any level of piano student. Rachel has helped me fulfill a lifelong dream. I am comfortable with, and I enjoy playing, for my own and my familys entertainment. Unfortunately, my father passed away a number of years ago and didnt hear my playing, but Im sure he would be happy with the result. Without reservation, I give Rachel Bonner my highest recommendation.

Rachel was the BEST, most effective piano teacher my kids have had. When she moved away we lost more than an amazing teacher....Rachel is a kind and talented woman. My boys still talk about her, 2 years later.

Rachel taught my grandson when I 'forced' him to take piano. She was kind, patient, happy and she made his lessons fun. She taught him pitch, musicality, and a love for music and he wasn't even aware he was learning.I miss her and anyone who goes to Rachel for lessons will be blessed.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Usually I interview prospective students on Thursday evenings. If the student has already had some piano instruction, I will ask them to play a few songs for me and will ask them some questions to assess where they are in their knowledge of theory. At that point I will talk to the parents about how I plan to proceed with the student's piano lessons in my studio.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied with a private piano teacher for 14 years and have been teaching piano lessons for the last 15 years. I have 10 years of experience in directing choirs and taught Preschool and Elementary Music classes for 4 years. I began playing professionally for church services, weddings, funerals and graduations at the age of 12.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I love music, playing the piano, teaching, and helping other people reach their goals. I feel that being a piano teacher is my calling in life.
