Ben worked with us extremely well as another contractor on our remodeling project had numerous setbacks and schedule changes. Ben adjusted to when we needed him. Quality work, and we plan to use him on more things around our house.

I recently had tile work done by Tech Tile. The owner Jose is friendly, responsive and a hard worker. He communicated both via phone and text. Jose is fast and very good at what he does and has a lot of experience so has some good ideas regarding the design and layout too. Overall a good experience and the tiles look good!

Jeff fixed a botched tile job that caused water from our shower to leak all over the bathroom floor. He was able to see the problem and tell us how he could fix it during our first meeting. The cost was reasonable and he was on time every day. We are happy with the results and would hire Jeff again.

The problem was with my side garage door causing locking problems. Though everything looked level and plumb there were some very slight tolerance differences. We took the strike plates off and cut the the nails holding the door frame to the rough opening. There were also two screws, one top and one bottom that were also removed from the strike side. The brick molding from the strike side and top were then removed allowing us to tap the top of the strike side in toward the garage and then tested the locking mechanisms for alignment and ease. Once in proper place, we secured the strike side top and bottom to hold it in place. When we had removed the brick molding we discovered that once the door was properly aligned, the sheathing on the strike side stuck out approximately a 1/4 inch. It became clear that the original contractor failed to square up the hinge side of the door opening with the strike side of the door opening thus there existed a slight torqueing of the door in the opening. With that, and the addition of cold and heat expansion and contraction, locking the door was problematic. We managed to trim down a 3/4 by 1/4 area of the sheathing so the brick mold would sit flat on the sheathing and door frame keeping the appropriate setback from the edge. We were also able to accomplish the work without affecting the siding at all. I had a piece of brick molding consistent with what was there so we were able to replace the strike side molding which I cut on my compound miter saw. Everything fit in perfectly and the door is easily closed and locked. What remains is some slight shimming, recaulking the top and strike side, and another coat of paint on the trim.

Hello, My sister recommended me to have GTC/Steamatic do repairs painting and mold removal for our house. Most of the mold was located in a closet off the kitchen and we wanted the first floor painted. The job was done in about 3 weeks as they had to rebuild an archway from the living room to dining room. We are very happy with all the work done and Bo gave us the best price with a bundle discount compared to the other contractors. Otherwise we wouldn't have gotten to rebuild the archway. My new furniture arrives next week and it looks like a total remodel I highly recommend Bo Tony and Marina for any project you've got going on in your home!

We hired Mark to tear out vinyl tile from our 2 bathroom floors and replace it with ceramic. The price he quoted us was the price we paid and his work was fantastic. We had both our bathrooms finished in only 3 days total. Couldn't be any happier!

I had two other contractors attempt to fix a roof leak. I need to replace the roof but I wanted to wait until spring. Martin actually fixed it right and it has stayed dry through a couple of months of heavy rains. Very reasonable price too.

Very flexible with our schedules and got the job done in less than 3 days like he promised! His knowledge and expertise showed through the quality of his work. We had a few other tilers quote and none of them were able/willing to move around our plumbing (shower head and handle). Gregg offered before we even asked and was able to get it done no problem! Would definitely hire again for our next tile project. Thank you Gregg!

Kevin has done a great job in my home. I have had him install a tile floor and shower in the bathroom, hardwood flooring in the dining room, laminate in the kitchen and carpeting in the living room and bedrooms. I have highly recommended Kevin to my family and friends. He does an excellent job quickly and professionally.

Trent and Jacob are amazing!! They do great work for a great value. I ended up having them do more than I expected. They are all around great handymen/carpenters. They pretty much did it all from tile on the kitchen floor to drywall to a new door frame and a roof! Love these guys. I am having them come back to do the rest of my house when I am ready. Highly recommend!

After 8 quotes for a fence from local fence companies and contractors, I came across thumbtack and figured I would give it a try. Almost immediately entering my info Joe reached out. I was immediately impressed with his professionalism and timely quote. He actually included the exact material quote showing exactly what materials along with how much everything cost. He was the clear winner. I was pretty specific with the timeframe, and he got it done. He stayed on budget as promised, and was great with communication throughout the project. Joe completed a 90+ foot privacy fence with a beautiful gate that crosses my driveway. I recommend Joe Mahas and Native Remodels without hesitation.

I had the good fortune of discovering Roerdink Remodel through a business associate in the spring of 2017. At the time, what I needed was a handyman for a new investment property, and Dan Roerdink quickly showed his skill, professionalism, timeliness, insight, and good humor. Since then, I've purchased another investment property, this time a 2-Family, and Dan has become my right-hand man. He's done everything from plaster repair to custom carpentry, light electrical to plumbing, custom door framing / cutting / installation, window replacement, painting and lighting. Dan is truly an excellent contractor, a cut above the rest. Several of my clients in Property Management are now hiring him as well, with equally impressive results. If you're fortunate enough to find Dan with time in his schedule for your project, I would seize the opportunity! Feel free to contact me via Facebook for my business with any questions or to confirm the veracity of this review. - Kurt P. Coffin, Owner of Summit Property Management of Sheboygan.

I had carpets cleaned and tile grout stained to a lighter color. We were extremely happy with both jobs. Workers did a very detailed job. The lighter grout made the kitchen floor look like a brand new floor. I will definitely use Grout Experts for future home projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
