I got such amazing feedback from my guests as well. Here are a few I got multiple times: • This was the most fun I ever had at a wedding!!! • When you said you were having a live band, I was picturing a few guys and guitars. This was so much better! • We are just blown away. Haven’t had this much fun dancing in years! My whole goal for my reception was to make a memorable experience for all of our family and friends to feel like they were really apart of the celebration of our marriage. I wanted a fun party were everyone stayed late and danced all night. Like any bride, I wanted to be able to look back on my big day and feel like it was the most amazing day of my life. And it was. Jerry was absolute amazing to work with and really understood my vision for the wedding and helped my fiancé and I get exactly the reception we dreamed of. I loved the variety of music he could provide us with, depending upon our personal tastes and the atmosphere we wanted. I am so glad we went with Mood Swings, it made our big day a day I will be dreaming of for the rest of my life.

Jerry, Nora with Kevin and Jeff created the perfect evening of family celebration for our party of 70. They played classic country, rockabilly, 70s country/rock and 50's jive per request. They were amazing beyond my expectation and the guests were raving of what an awesome 👏 band they are! Thank you Jerry and Nora for setting the evening of memories that will last our lifetime. Maybe you will come back to play for us next year! Standing "O". Many thanks! Sue

Lloyd Stephens and his band are an absolutely amazing group of artists. Their sound is so much fun to dance along with, yet it remains beautiful and cheerful. Lloyd's voice had every one of my guests wanting more. The bands funky beats kept the crowd tight on the dance floor. The whole band drove an hour and a half from Milwaukee, WI to Franklin Park, IL to perform. They were punctual, polite, and friendly. We had a lot going on with other artists performing but the band kept their patience through a 6 hour hire time plus a two hour set up. We hired the Lloyd Stephens Band to perform at our wedding and could not have been happier. Truly Awesome and One of a Kind. Thank You So Much Lloyd!!!!

The band was awesome. Played a mix of Motown and rock n roll for my wedding. To my surprise the dance floor was full all night. I would hire them again in a flash.

    About

We offer the biggest variety of live music for your event. The Brew City Big Band is a 22-piece big band that performs the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and other big band leaders and singers. We play swing, Latin, polka, and waltz music. The Brew City Big Band recreates the fabulous sounds of the '30s, '40s, and '50s. The band can break down into Big Shots and the Brew City Chasers. This 7-horn band performs rock, Latin, disco, pop, jump swing, and country from the '50s through the '80s. Looking for some dinner music? The band breaks down further into the Microbrew Combo. This group of experienced improvisers plays mellow, traditional jazz standards. Our customers are thrilled with having a full-size big band play for their event. We play many of the original arrangements of the swing band era, and this music keeps the older people staying at the event. Sometimes, our customers want to have the "party music" after the big band plays for the younger crowd. We just break down into Big Shots and the Brew City Chasers and play various music, from Bill Haley and the Comets to Donna Summer to Bon Jovi. We provide a very wide variety of music, and special requests are welcome. Don't be fooled by a small 4 or 5-piece band that says they can do Frank Sinatra. It just doesn't sound the same without that full-size big band backing the singer up.

    About

We are a music trio. The band consists of keyboard, percussion, and vocalist/violin/acoustic guitar. Our music is a classy blend of contemporary jazz classics and original ensembles. We guarantee a most magnificent musical occasion.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
