I live in a small one bedroom apartment, near downtown Milwaukee, and purchased the deep clean with carpet shampoo. Jennifer sent 2 ladies over to clean and they did a great job. I had some carpet stains that I thought would be a problem, but they got the stains out and the bathroom and kitchen came out really good. I will definitely purchase from Jennifer's Cleaning again.

I need a one time move out cleaning service. I found PFSS from Thumbtack and sent them a message. Paulina called me back shortly. She meet me and gave me a very reasonable price and sent to people to the place to clean the place the next day. The job was well done. I definitely will use them in the future.

Josh did a great job remodeling my entire bathroom, tile, shower, floor, trim, paint, vanity, lighting. Bathroom looks great, affordable quote with excellent communication/project management and a very fair price. I would recommend for bathroom tiling and paint, etc. I actually did all the demo, and it got too difficult for me to continue, Josh came in and knocked the project out the park.

Clyde was professional and restored my tile and grout both in the kids bathroom and laundry room. We had my 4 older children's handprint tiles in the bathroom but never added my 5th child's handprint tile because he was born after the installation of the 4 tiles. Clyde was able to add my son's handprint tile next to the other tiles. Clyde installed the tile with out problems! I was very happy about that! The tile and grout restoration made our kids bathroom look like new again.

We hired Mark to tear out vinyl tile from our 2 bathroom floors and replace it with ceramic. The price he quoted us was the price we paid and his work was fantastic. We had both our bathrooms finished in only 3 days total. Couldn't be any happier!

Jerry Simmons answered our post promptly and was able to come to our home and assess the needs of the repairs the same day we e-mailed him. We wanted this job done "soon" and Jerry was able to come the next day to do the repairs. He and his wife matched our floor grout. He also caulked the counter/splash board joint, which was in need of repair. All was done in less than 4 hrs time. This evening we have a kitchen that looks the way it did when we first moved in. I recommend Mr. Jerry Lee Simmons for the quality of his work, his promptness and ability to assess work repairs, as needed.

After buying my home I ended up with water damage in my basement, Joe was recommended to me by a neighbor. He came in and assessed the damage and told me what was wrong and gave me a quote to do the work. Joe had to remove master bath shower and remove all the drywall in the ceiling of my basement. He was great and kept my house clean and dust free everyday he worked on my shower. He was patient with me as chose tile for the wall and floor of the shower. Joe did an excellent job installing the tile, grout and drywall. He even painted my bathroom and the ceiling in the basement, making sure everything was clean when he was finished! I love my new shower!

We had to have some work done in our basement. Flooring, bathroom remodel and some electrical. Super 3 Handyman was very professional, on time and actually showed up. WE called 2 other contractors and none of them showed up on time. We try to get 3 quotes to see which one is the best. We were able to compare and realize that Super 3 was the cheapest. He was so friendly, good with our dog and made sure he cleaned up after himself every day that he worked at our house. The custom tile work is amazing. He is quick, efficient and reliable. I trust him, and I will have him back for our next big project.. Thank you Super 3 Handyman! :)

I had carpets cleaned and tile grout stained to a lighter color. We were extremely happy with both jobs. Workers did a very detailed job. The lighter grout made the kitchen floor look like a brand new floor. I will definitely use Grout Experts for future home projects.

Herley did a great job installing a new faucet in my bathroom. He was on time. Very professional. Explained very thoroughly what he was doing. Did a clean job. He was reasonably priced. He also explained that as a general contractor he can also help with any other projects inside and outside the house. I will certainly hire him again for other projects that may come up in my house and highly recommend him.

Dan put steel support posts along one whole wall of our basement. He provided a detailed quote, did excellent, high-quality work and did it very quickly for me. I liked the quality of the posts and the fact that they were made to fit my house. He designs it to fit your situation. My supports needed extra brackets per code, he made them. Dan comes through and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

    • Old standard or electric toothbrush
    • Stiff bristle brush
    • Spray bottle
    • White vinegar
    • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.
