FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In this business you always have continuing education. From the new types of products that are brought to market every day, to the special ways that they have to be installed. You have to be on the top of your game at all times. We are members of The National Hardwood Flooring Assoc. which keeps us updated every month on whats new and up and coming in the industry. This also includes the re-finishing of hardwood flooring and new ways and best practices of all the new engineered floor that have come to market over the past 20 years. We also go through training schools on these new practices both in the wood flooring and the tile industries.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I learned the trade of fine hardwood floors and refinishing from my grandfather. When I was a child, he would take me along on jobs installing and refinishing hardwood floors, trim, handmade moldings, and doors and windows. In those days there were no flooring nailers or electric sanders to refinish floors. I was trained in the old school process of refinishing and installation using tools such as scraping and the use of wood planes on the floors. The finishes were tobacco stains and linseed oil or orange shellac. Every nail that was installed had to be set with a nail punch. When a floor is installed or refinished you get the feeling of great satisfaction seeing something you have done with your hands and hard tedious work.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
