Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I convert awkward prose and overly complex language into clear, concise, dramatic writing that invites the reader but still reflects the spirit of the author. Other pros may rewrite too heavily, losing the author's voice, or they may correct only grammar and spelling, while ignoring the flow and impact of the words. I write as I edit: clearly, simply, and dramatically. When editing, I most enjoy helping authors learn how to improve their own work. When I am writing, I am proud of my ability to express even complex ideas in a direcot, simple way that is easy for the reader to understand. .I also excel at producing press releases that reporters picks up!--sometimes verbatim- ecause they are shar,p.concise, and informative.i

I worked with Janet on a variety of free-lance medical education projects, where she was responsible for attending several conferences and summarizing the salient points and preparing an executive summary for the record and possible publication. Janet was (and always has been) very attentive to detail and quick to learn the subject matter, no matter how scientific, esoteric and/or new. She goes the extra mile in researching the topics in order to properly present the information and to cull the important, noteworthy results. Janet has a firm grasp on how to present sometimes difficult-to-understand material and make it accessable to the audience she is writing for. In addition to reporting on the work and research of others, Janet has a very creative and analytic mind and can formulate plans and outline scope of work for projects that has always proved to be right "on target." It would be ideal for Janet to take on a position or project where her writing and analytic skills can be utlized toward the production of a report or project plan. Janet's work ethic and ability to understand job requirements and time lines sets her apart from less experienced professionals.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

In the days before voice mail, when operators still answered phones, the operator in my apartment called me. She said she "overheard" that I was a writer. Would I like to write and photograph kidney transplant surgery? I said yes and began the most fascinating career I could imagine.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Before you meet with a potential client, think about which services you need and can afford. Services range at their least expensive end from proofreading, to simple copy editing, to the most expensive and comprehensive service: substantive editing When proofreading, editors check grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, verb tense, pronouns, spacing, and formatting. They do not rewrite your copy. Copy editing focuses on making certain that writing is clear, correct, concise, complete, and consistent. This work includes sentence and paragraph restructuring, eliminating redundancy, and substituting weak words, phrases, and sentences with vibrant alternatives--while still retaining the author's style and tone. Substantive editing includes major rewriting designed to both improve the author’s paper and to teach him/her how to make such changes in the future. For writing assignments, read the professionalsl sampled and see whether the person is 's responsive to your ideas rather than simply promoting their own.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I wish the average client realized how much time and effort a good editor can save them. A poorly edited work distracts the reader from the message.
