Introduction: Whether you are first learning an instrument or honing your craft, there are many ways that a teacher can help you;
To expand your base knowledge and skill
Move past a block
Develop ways of practicing that actually work for you
Develop an understanding of music theory that connects to what you are playing
Acheive a sense of musical accomplishment (mastery of technique and material)
Build a feeling of creative freedom and expression
My approach to working with students is to focus on the enjoyment and immediate experience of playing, allowing for awareness and patience that allows you to develop a genuine connection to your musical instrument and practice. This process is guided by your own musical goals, interests, and strengths, and your lessons will be tailored to suit your learning style and pace. I am a firm believer that everyone, regardless of perceived ability, can learn an instrument and have a fulfilling musical life.
My primary instrument is guitar, my main focuses being rock (classic, modern, indie) and folk (acoustic/fingerstyle), but also am experienced in blues, jazz, and classical. My secondary instruments are piano, which I have received classical training in from a young age, and electric bass, which I have both a jazz and rock background in. I also offer instruction in theory, composition/songwriting, and production for those interested, as one of my favorite aspects of teaching is helping people to express themselves creatively.
FAQ
Q. Where do you teach?
A. I am currently teaching online via Skype or Zoom. For residents of Nassau County, NY, we can work something out to do some lessons in person if you are interested, but the majority of lessons will still be online.
Q. Do online lessons really work?
A. Yes! While there are some specific limitations (we can't play together at the same time), the format allows for a wide range of techniques and tools that I have seen work great for a wide range of students.
Q. Do you teach beginners?
A. Absolutely! I particularly enjoy working with beginners because it involves laying down the foundations that are going to set you up for success. I am grateful that students of mine have said that I am patient and that they don't feel judged.
Q. Do you teach intermediate/advanced players?
A. Absolutely! I have worked with students who have been playing on the timeline of decades with great results.
