General Contracting

  • Serves West Covina, CA
Aharon K. says, "I cannot recommend Duke highly enough. After spending six figures on a licensed contractor to perform major work on my home, I hired Duke to install a new front door, since it was clear that my current contractor was performing subpar work--despite the cost. Duke not only installed the door, but entirely rebuilt the doorway framing (which the contractor had totally butchered) and replaced and repaired the new siding around my entrance--which my contractor also improperly installed. After seeing the care and attention Duke gave to this project, I then had him reinstall my new floors (which I saw were obviously improperly installed). As painful as it was to go through the process of reinstalling brand new floors, Duke worked hard to save as much of the flooring as possible and then properly install it. In the middle of this project, the LA rain made its way into my bedroom (despite my previous contractor installing new siding and rain gutters around this part of my house). Duke immediately got a hardworking, respectful, and professional team together and repaired this work as well a portion of my roof that was sagging due to water damage. It's hard to find a contractor that is trustworthy, does good work, and doesn't try to cut corners in LA. Duke is the rare exception--what distinguishes him from the contractors and numerous laborers I have hired is that he cares about the quality of his work, is incredibly knowledgable, and aims to do what's in your (and your home's) best interest. In my experience, while others may claim to do this, this is really just a sales pitch with no substance to back it up. That's not the case with Duke--he really does a great job while keeping your best interest in mind. Don't make the mistake I made by paying a contractor to do the work incorrectly the first time and THEN having Duke come out to fix the problems they created. Hire Duke the first time and save yourself the heartache (and the money of paying some other contractor to do it wrong the first time)."See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the best waterproof flooring for a basement?

There are several great options for waterproof basement flooring. For example, epoxy floors are waterproof but are thicker and sturdier than paint. Make sure the concrete substrate has been prepared for application.

Tile is a designer’s dream, giving you a moisture-resistant surface that’s infinitely customizable. Rubber sheets or tiles are also good waterproof options, particularly for playrooms, workout areas or laundry rooms.

Vinyl tiles and planks imitate wood or other materials very convincingly, provide moisture resistance and last a long time. And sheet vinyl is affordable and a great waterproofing solution for those in need of quick fixes.
