Ricky's philosophy is "Knowledge is the key element in creating a successful program that will produce unbelievable results. Experience and continued education, along with the concept of what makes your body function proficiently and properly, can develop a temple that you will love."

Ricky Jackson, 2014 Houston's Personal Trainer of the year, has been involved with fitness for the last 30 years as a professional athlete, collegiate and professional head strength and conditioning coach for 18 different sports, The Briar Club's boxing and personal trainer and a Youth Camp supervisor at The Houstonian Health Club. He has developed his training regimens from his over 100 hours of human performance studies at Texas Southern University to the various trainers and coaches that he has had the tremendous privilege of working with over the years.

It has been a great advantage for Ricky, both personally and professionally, to have been involved in so many phenomenal training programs. These experiences have helped Ricky develop a style of his own, which includes the most advantageous training regimens for each one of his many satisfied clients.

Ricky formerly worked for one of Houston's exclusive resorts, The Houstonian Hotel, Club and Trellis Spa as the head of their year-round Youth Camp program. During Mr. Jackson's tenure with the resort, he was instrumental in implementing new and exciting programs for the youth aimed at creating state-of-the-art and high-quality fitness programs for children ages three to 12 years old. The youth program uniquely utilized Ricky's talent of years of experience in the fitness arena and satisfied his passion to work to inspire others of every age, gender and background through fitness programs.

A.K.A. Coach Jackson, Ricky spent five years at the helm of the strength and conditioning program at Texas Southern University. He was responsible for 18 different sports in the athletic program. He was praised for the development of the university's weight room into a fully functional facility for all 18 sports while providing personal training for university students and employees. He was also responsible for dietary programs for weight loss/gain and educating athletes about nourishment to achieve optimal performance.

Coach Jackson has played an integral part in the following successes during his tenure:

* 2014 Houston Personal Trainer of the Year Award
* 2006 Men's and Women's Tennis SWAC Championship
* 2005 and 2006 Women's Bowling SWAC Championship (ranked #9 in the nation by the NCAA)
* 2004 Baseball SWAC Championship/NCAA appearance
* 2004 and 2005 Women Basketball SWAC Tournament appearances
* 2003 Men Basketball SWAC Tournament Championship/NCAA appearance

Prior to his stint at TSU, Coach Jackson was a professional prizefighter from 1989 until retiring in 2001. He bypassed the amateur ranks and began competing on the professional level. He turned heads with an impressive record of 26 wins and four losses with 18 KOs (Boxrec).

Achievements during his illustrious boxing career include the following:

* Texas Cruiserweight Championship Title 1994
* Texas Heavyweight Champion from 1994 to 2001 (Emeritus)
* World rankings with the WBU (#8), NAFB (#12), WBC (#16), and WBA (#22)

He also made boxing history by fighting for the first ever WBU World Super Cruiserweight title.

As a free agent, Ricky Jackson fought for some of the top promoters and trainers in the world, including George Benton, Lou Duva, Eddie Futch, Emanuel Stewart, Don Turner, Tommy Brooks, Curtis Cokes, Jessie Reid, Aaron Snowell, Cedric Kushner and the Duva's Main Events Monitor. In 1998, he signed with boxing promoter Don King, where he remained until 2000. He attributes his exceptional strength and conditioning knowledge to the multitude and quality of coaches and personal trainers he has the privilege of working with over the years.

As a humanitarian, Ricky Jackson has demonstrated an altruistic attitude by donating his time and energy to incalculable community organizations. He was awarded the Positive Influential African American Male Award and the Young Black Achiever Award. Former city of Houston Mayor Bob Lanier recognized him with a "Ricky Jackson Day" proclamation. Former city councilman Orlando Sanchez also presented him with a certificate of appreciation for the outstanding accomplishment of receiving the highest award attainable from the state of Texas in heavyweight boxing.

Ricky is a very personable, professional and reliable personal trainer who is helping me achieve my goals of long term weight loss and strength training. He tailors fitness regimes to the individual and varies the routine on a weekly basis so it never becomes tedious. I highly recommend Ricky if you are serious about getting fit and want a trainer who will go that extra mile to help you reach your goals.

Ricky is great! My boyfriend and I have been doing group in home training (so convenient) with Ricky 2-3 times a week for the past few months and I've really noticed a difference in my overall fitness and strength. His scheduling is very flexible so just about anytime I want to work out, he's available.

Ricky's style is very different than working out alone. He works the whole body using a mixture of approaches that keeps me from getting bored or falling into a rut. Also, I LOVE the boxing.

Also, Ricky's a nice guy. But be warned: he's tough. The first month I felt like I wanted to throw up - and that was just after the warm up!

I'd highly recommend Ricky for anyone looking to increase strength and muscle tone as well as cardio training and conditioning.

Just through luck I found Ricky via a Google search and I am so glad that I did. I have worked out off and on over the past several years but wanted to get back being the best I could be. Ricky has been the great getting me to give my all, and the results I have gotten in just a few months really show it. Ricky takes great pride in his profession and is a real pleasure to work with, now my wife has also seen the light and she is working out with us as well. There is no way I would be able to attain what I have to date without Ricky's help, he is worth every penny. Thanks!!

In order to get back into the gym after a year of injuries, I was referred to Ricky by a friend, being told that he’d know exactly what to do and how hard to push me. It’s difficult to start all over! I took the advice and trained with Ricky for a while. By designing a varied and challenging regiment including elements of strength training, cardio and nutrition, as well as meeting at some pre-dawn time (not sure that was by design!), Ricky helped me make significant changes in my fitness level and body shape in a relatively short period of time. Ricky gave me 200% of his effort and focus each time we worked together . . .and provided the inspiration and motivation for me so that I could reach my goals. One of the best moves I ever made!

When it comes to reaching your full potential of physical fitness Coach Jackson will help you to reach and obtain your desired goals. He improved my 40yd dash from 4.72 to 4.41, with speed and strength drills that are second to none. Regardless of your sport or profession his knowledge is on point. Coach Jackson helped me to obtain all American status in college while also being in top shape playing in Europe. I would not put my physical conditioning in another coaches hands.

Training with Ricky increased my overall fitness level and helped to incorporate regular fitness as a "habit" into my schedule. During our training course I lost approximately 30 pounds from training 3 times per week consistently. For the first time in my life I saw the benefits of strength training as well as cardio workouts. I've always been aware of healthy eating and fitness (ie. cardio), however, strength training with Ricky has giving me the confidence and the skills to go to the gym to and do my routine knowing I am benefiting instead of spinning my wheels. I am proud of my results and lifestyle change and I feel great as a result.

I have been training with Ricky Jackson for over 10 years. I first started when I began training for the Golden Gloves. My goal was to win my age group in my weight division. Ricky had the unique background of being a former professional world class fighter and a body builder. His skills in both areas helped me accomplish my goal and I won the Houston championship.

I have continued to train with Ricky and introduced my 2 daughters who now train with him also. They are both in outstanding shape and capable of being personal trainers themselves. One of my daughters became an ODP level soccer player who now plays Division 1 soccer.

Whether you want to become an accomplished athlete or just attain your highest level of fitness Ricky has a program he can design and implement for you. I must warn you thought that Ricky is just as committed to your goals and will make sure you are advancing and progressing daily. He is a trainer for all levels of fitness and ages.

More importantly he is an amazing person and I am proud to call him my best friend!

My experience with Ricky Jackson was a great one! My whole family used Ricky to improve our physical appearance. I was never a very strong or toned person until I got with Ricky and he showed me how to improve my workouts and build muscle. Ricky not only became my personal trainer but part of my family. He is a great trainer with a good heart.

When looking for a personal trainer I wanted to find someone who would take a personal interest in my success and push me beyond what "I" think my capabilities are. Ricky does this and more. He has a great workout program but he goes above and beyond to make sure your nutritional needs are being met as well. In less than three months I saw a significant change in the way I looked and felt. What I love most about Ricky's program is the mix of exercises. For example, Ricky will use boxing as cardio vs. running on the treadmill, he will mix in the ab work so you won't be overwhelmed doing them all at once, and he uses a mix of body, machine and free weights to keep your body guessing! Not to mention, if you are an athlete like myself he adds an entirely different realm of workouts in the mix. Ricky is by far one of the best trainers in the business!

I began a workout regime with Ricky Jackson in May of 2009. At that time I didn’t have a real weight issue, however I didn’t have any muscle tone and I could definitely benefit from exercising, if for no other reason than to be healthy. I worked out with Ricky from May of 2009 until approximately August of 2010. When I began the workout program I weighed 142 pounds and I currently weigh 132 pounds. So I lost 10 pounds which I have managed to keep off by continuing to work out on my own at least three times a week, and I have developed muscle tone all over my body. What I have really appreciated from Ricky’s training is that he always made sure you not just worked out for the sake of working out, but he also made sure that you understood each machine you used, what muscle(s) it worked and how it benefited your body. Therefore when I travel (which I do quite often with my job) I can walk into a Fitness Center and know just what to do. I am grateful to him for imparting his knowledge which has helped me to be more conscious of not only the importance of exercising but also the importance of your food intake…your daily diet/food choices. When it comes to his training program, Ricky takes a very professional, serious, approach and provides a pleasant workout environment. This was my first and only time working out with a professional trainer and I am so glad that I had this opportunity, it has benefited me greatly!

I have been training with Ricky for a little over 3 years now. When I started with him I was 10 months post-op from having an L5-S1 Anterior Lumbar Fusion (back surgery). For ten years I had issues with my back, throughout my entire 20's I felt like I had the body of an unhealthy 80 year old. I was in pain all the time. I could not exercise or do most things people my age were doing without "paying for it" during the following weeks. I had heard about Ricky from some friends and they all spoke of him very highly. I was very skeptical about training because of my history with back pain, but eventually I was talked into at least giving it a try.

The first time I worked out with Ricky, we talked extensively about my concerns and about my surgery. He developed a program to help me strengthen my core to help support my back and lessen the pain. When I started I couldn't run more than a couple of minutes, could barely squat 85 lbs. more than once and was still dealing with back pain. Within 6 months of training with Ricky I was running 2 miles, squatting 225 lbs 10 times and I no longer had back pain 24/7.

Due to a new job and hectic travel schedule, I had to take a 10 month hiatus from the gym. However, I've since returned to the gym and part of that decision was due to that "sneaky" back pain I felt returning. Since being back in the gym the last 3 months, I am doing things I never thought possible. I am already up to running 3 miles every workout and I feel great. My strength is also returning rapidly.

Training with Ricky was one of the best decisions I ever made, he has changed my life! People workout with trainers for all different reasons, I chose to do it because I wanted to take control of my body and be pain free. Ricky Jackson helped me achieve this goal. In addition, working out has helped to increase my self-esteem and confidence in my abilities.

Ricky is excellent. He is knowledgeable and very professional in his training. Ricky has the experience to draw upon so he can design a workout program that fits my exact needs. I have been working out with Ricky for 8 months now and am completely satisfied. I have worked out with numerous other personal trainers but I have never been as well trained as I am with Ricky. I HIGHLY recommend Ricky.

Ricky is amazing! Very motivating, knowlegeable and fun! I've been working out with Ricky for a couple of years now and have never felt better! He is great with always changing things up so that it never gets old. I've worked out with many trainers in Houston...and he is the best!

My experience training with Ricky Jackson has been incredible and successful. Ricky is a very knowledgable and experienced trainer! My results have been life changing for me! I have so much more strength, confidence and energy!

  • 5/5 stars December 14, 2011

I have been working out most of my adult life but I was never REALLY satisfied with the results. I wasn't overweight but I always felt like I should lose 5 or 10 more pounds. Popular magazines with alluring articles of how to "flatten your abs, lift your butt or trim your thighs" just don't seem to work. I tried diets, the latest TV workout machine and I even tried to get a "Smokin' Hot Body" in 90 days but
none of these methods made much of a difference or had any long term effect.
When I started working out with Ricky I was blown away! I began to quickly see improvements. Ricky showed me what to do to get the lasting results I craved. He makes it so simple that you don't have to think about a thing. Yes, I had to work at it but believe me, MEASURABLE CHANGE is a great motivator. It's even a lot of fun especially when I try on jeans; no more "MUFFIN TOP"!

Ricky has a wealth of knowledge about the physiology of the body. He shows you what it takes to STRENGTHEN, SHAPE and FUEL your body and mind and teaches you how it ALL works in harmony. Of all of his many qualities, my favorite is his UNPARALLELED ability to evaluate each client to specifically design a program that works to helps you achieve YOUR own individual goals.

If you are a world class athlete looking for and edge, a busy parent who needs an efficient fitness plan, if you travel on business, if you are sick and tired of the fitness craze of the month, or EVEN if you hardly ever worked out before; let Ricky show you how to reach your potential and live your dreams.

After working with Ricky I no longer worry about losing 5 or 10 pounds. I love the shape of my body, I feel strong, confident, and beautiful. I was so lucky to find him. I think he's the best in Houston!
