I'm a professional and experienced percussion and drum set instructor, offering group and private lessons. I am a member of Percussive Arts Society (PAS) and Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA).

Lessons are taught in my home studio in Plano, near Coit and Parker. To make the learning process easier, my teaching studio is set up with two drum sets and a PA system for demonstrations .

I welcome all experience levels and age groups. I have eleven years private teaching and over twenty-five years playing experience. I will develop a custom lesson plan based on each student’s experience and learning style.

Students will learn rudiments, proper technique, a variety of musical styles and music reading in a fun environment. I also teach advanced skills like showmanship and solos.

Private lessons are available on Latin percussion, drum set, and snare drum. Private lessons are $30 per lesson, held weekly, and last approximately 30 minutes. Weekend, afternoon and evening times are available.

Contact me via email or telephone to discuss details.

My 11 year old son Cameron developed a strong interest in Music over the last couple years. He begged his father and I for a drum set and we finally bought him drums for Christmas. It didn't take long before we realized music lessons would be helpful. Cam started drum lessons with Rob in February. His playing improved drastically right away.

Rob's teaching style is amazing. He is patient, fun and has well designed lessons that has kept my 11 year old with ADD interested and excited in music. I believe that his new found talent has helped him stay focused in school.

Cameron looks forward to his weekly lessons, and always comes home excited to play for his family. Cam looks up to Rob as a rocker, teacher, and mentor.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Most students are interested in beginning to advanced drum set playing. I also regularly teach school percussion, and Latin percussion (conga, timbales, etc.) to students of all playing levels.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Some drummers are wonderful performers, but not patient teachers. When choosing a teacher, look for one with an extended history in teaching in addition to performing experience.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. In addition to extensive performing experience, I am a member of TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) and PAS (Percussive Arts Society). Both of these organizations share my commitment to quality music education.

I customize a lesson plan based on each students' unique needs and learning style. This adaptability engages students right away and keeps them committed to progressing on their instrument. Many students have studied with me for several years.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I have spent the the last quarter century studying drums and percussion. I enjoy sharing the knowledge I have acquired with students to help attain his or her musical goals. My excitement for percussion transfers to my students, encouraging them to practice and excel on their instrument.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I have had a passion for drums and teaching since my first student in 1991. I have been teaching professionally since 1998.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I regularly work with other professional drummers to further my playing and teaching abilities. Notable Famous Drummers: Louise Belson (Jazz Great), Greg Bissonette (David Lee Roth), Zoro (Lenny Kravitz), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Tommy Aldridge (Ozzy, Whitesnake) & Teddy Campbell (American Idol).
