I have been teaching for a long time - 45 years. Most people aren't interested in going through 10 years of method books to learn how to play classical. Kids don't stick with it and eventually forget everything they memorized. They never learned to create their own music. It never became fun. Practicing becomes a chore. To enjoy learning to play they need to "play" outside the box. That is my goal no matter how old you are, no matter how many years of lessons you have had. I can teach you how to play your piano, learn the reasons behind why it works, record what you play so you can listen to yourself and last, teach you to not be dependant on only reading music. That kind of teacher is not so easy to find.
Music has been my passion since I was seven. I knew I was going to teach when I was ten. I had a good teacher who was a professional player. I was a difficult student because I bucked the system of method bucks that only taught me to read and memorize music. It forced my teacher to teach how I wanted to learn. I started playing piano bars and clubs that hired single musicians when I was 21. Today I prefer to write and record only keyboard improvisation - play "off the top of my head," Emotions. Stories Without Words is the title of my new album. I'm currently recording a soundtrack for a book I'm writing. Everyone is different. What you want to play is unique to you. That takes a teacher who can help you find that. It's a process. I love to teach what I know. If you choose a teacher who can only play music someone else wrote down they can't teach anything else. I've reduced my lesson price to lower than what it was 25 years ago to allow more people to have a chance to learn how to make music. I hope to hear from you.
