Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Hiram Alexander Orozco is a stylist and photographer. He has been a professional costume designer for four years and a stylist for two. He most recently was employed by Arena Stage as a design assistant and stylist, and he works a freelance photographer in the RGV. I have always been fascinated by clothes and fashion. Clothes are the most basic form of nonverbal communication between individuals because it is an extension of our personality and our environment. As a designer, I am constantly trying to help directors and actors more clearly define their characters and as a stylist, I am always trying to help find the best silhouette and colors that most greatly flatter an individual's personality, figure, and need. Working as a designer introduced me to the world of photography. My work as a designer has influenced my photography and the way I stage a photograph. It's more than finding the right background, the right outfit and the perfect lighting, it's about making your subject feel comfortable, free and empowered-it's the collaboration that results in the best photos.

Hiram is not only personally trendy and fashion forward, but also he has a keen eye for what will best serve your needs and sense of style. His designs are eye-catching and out of the ordinary, and he is a delight to work with. With Hiram, I've always felt supported and even challenged to step outside the box when it came to my daily choices. His calm, fun, and hilarious personality made the process that much better. If you want sound advice, support in your personal stype choices, and a fantastic human being in your life, Hiram is who you need.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Iowa where I specialized in Costume Design and Lighting Design. I have worked as an assistant for a multitude of designers from regional theatres, university productions and Broadway. Most recently, I was employed as a design assistant and stylist by Arena Stage.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I've always been fascinated by clothing but I started my journey as a designer in high school when I was chosen by our director to style our show. I had absolutely no clue as to what costumes to put on my fellow actors but somehow it came together. I then focused on earning my degree in costume design for the theatre and then expanded my knowledge to photography, where I mix my experience as a costume designer, lighting designer, and stylist.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I was the lead assistant/stylist for Arena Stage's "Smart People." This is a modern-dress show with four characters, each with at least five different looks. I have been working closely with the designer and have done all the shopping on the show. We went into our fourth week of rehearsal and the show was in incredible shape because of the countless shopping I coordinated. By the time, technical rehearsal and previews came around, not much changed because I was able to anticipate many changes early on in the process and I was always ready with options. It was a huge show, but it was crazy fun!
