Introduction: I am a former elementary school music teacher for grades K-8 and have taught piano for over 25 years to students, ages 6 to senior. My music education consists of a bachelor's degree in Music Ministry (Judson University), and a master's degree in Music Education (NIU, DeKalb). Lessons are tailored to the learning styles and goals of the students. I teach classical, pop, gospel, jazz and contemporary Christian music styles. I teach comprehensively so that students become a well-rounded musician. Students will learn (1) to read music; 2) music theory; (3) ear training; (4) to compose and sequence music; (5) chords and progressions. I enjoy teaching students at different levels and helping them achieve their goals in music. It's great seeing students experience the joy of learning music and the discovery of how music works!

My son has been taking lessons with Mrs. Holloway since he was 7 years old. She has been such an awesome teacher. She has helped to train him classically and helped develop his ear in music. She has an amazing ability to meet each student where they are and maximize their potential. I would highly recommend her as an instructor.

Billy is a caring and knowledgeable person who plays the piano and organ beautifully. She works calmly and diligently with you to make sure that you understand the skills, songs, chords, chord changes, etc. being taught on the piano/keyboard. Students will enjoy lessons and be pleased with their progress. I certainly was.

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I believe students can advance in music when they understand what is going on in music pieces and by developing their music skills. I studied and developed in grad school a comprehensive approach to teaching music, whereby students not only learn to play piano, but they study music theory (how music works) within a genre they're familiar with. Thus, the students begin to study music they have listened to (their internal storehouse). classical, gospel, pop, jazz, country, etc.
