FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I usually like people to call me, or I call them. It is way faster than texting or emailing back and forth! I get the contact information first. I usually get more than one cell phone number, since the day of the party people often are not answering their phones and occasionally I may need to reach them, especially if the party is at a park where there are numerous other parties and I am trying to find their party! I ask them what time their party starts. I usually recommend having me come at least 1/2 hour or an hour into the party since usually it takes a while for the guests to arrive and that way you get more "bang for your buck"! If the party is for very small children and is just a 2 hour party, I can come when the party starts, since very small children have such short attention spans, and I have lots to entertain them with in order to give their parents a break! I spend more time face painting the birthday child. I start face painting first as everyone is arriving since that is one on one. I also make balloon swords then since they are very fast to make and remake while face painting! I also show them how to make the large bubbles while the face painting is going on. Later, when everyone is there, I do the games and magic. I let them know that they can use my hula hoops and I set up an area with my baby toys on a tarp for the parents to let their babies and toddlers play with. I ask what the theme is, if there is one, and if there are any specific things that they want me to face paint or make balloons of for the party. I try to accommodate any request. I ask where the party will be: a home, a park, a hall, a recreation center, a church, a community room,etc.. I also find out where specifically they will want me to set up there. I ask the name and age of the birthday child and the approximate ages of the children attending. A party with mostly children under 3 years old is a very different party than one where all of the children can express their desires and follow and understand directions. If it is not a birthday party, I get any additional information that I may need. If it is a corporate or other event where an invoice is needed, I get all of the information that I would need to create and email an invoice.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I did a family night for the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club and was face painting and doing balloons for the children and adults there. Everyone was really happy showing off to each other their face paintings of pretty masks, unicorns, poop emojis, "Picachu", the "Creeper" and many others. Then the children were all chasing each other with balloon swords and I would quickly make them more when the swords would pop after touching the ground. The parents and older children were using my wands to make the 14 foot long bubbles while the younger children used the smaller bubble wands. When their hands were soapy, they could even catch bubbles and hold them in their hands for a while! It was a little windy, which carried the bubbles quite a distance. I had started with a 5 gallon bucket of bubble solution and at the end of the 3 hours, it was 3/4 empty! My hula hoops were being used by everyone and some of the parents were even surprised that they still could hula hoop after many years (decades) of not doing it! My balloon hats were a hit and I did lots of skeleton, "Spider-Man", "Batman", "Elmo", and princess hats to name a few! It was a fun event with everyone full of lots of energy and excitement! It was my pleasure to be there and make it even more enjoyable for everyone. I am usually one of the last ones to leave such an event, and this one was no exception! "Just one more balloon, please 'Free Spirit', PLEASE"!
