What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
So glad you are interested in Passion Studios and the stellar lesson experience we provide through the Simply Music method! Our first step is to schedule a Free Introductory Session. The session is an hour to come to the studio, meet the teacher and hear their story, learn more about Simply Music and what sets it apart from traditional piano methods, and answer any questions you may have.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Passion Studios is a Licensed Simply Music Teacher location. The Simply Music method is based on the premise that all humans - without exception - are deeply and profoundly musical.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Gabrielle Krieger is a Licensed Simply Music teacher with 17 years of piano experience. After taking traditional, classical lessons since age 6, she began the journey of creative self-expression and taught herself accompaniment, chording and improvisation. In 2013 she joined the Des Moines based band Like Tides. She played keyboard and synth, wrote original pieces and shared the stage with globally successful bands. She obtained her Simply Music license after years of eyeing the program and established Passion Studios in December of 2014.
One of her life's goals is to culturally redefine what it means to be musical, enabling individuals to cast off the pressure to fit the mould and be musically self-expressive.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We work with all ages! Our youngest is 5 and our oldest is 89!
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Recently students volunteered at New Horizons Adult Day Center, and performed some pieces they learned over the summer, as well as interacting with the attendees and showing them more about the keyboard. We also had our recital at Porchlight Coffeehouse and shared some pieces we had learned over the year!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Regardless of whether you take group or private lessons, look for someone who is invested not only in your personal education, but in your personal growth and well being as a person. Your teacher will be much more attune to what your personal needs are as a student, and as a result will ask you better questions about outside factors that may be affecting your practice time and development as a musician.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
How much time do you have to *invest* in piano? Learning piano doesn't happen over night, and especially doesn't come just by thinking about it. You have to dedicate at least 15-20 minutes every day actively practicing the piano and working on the hard material. If you have that time and dedication, look for a teacher who will be just as invested in you!
