Introduction: My expertise in both contemporary singing styles and classical technique allows my students to explore their music genre of choice in a healthy, supportive way. I specialize in: coaching lead singers of bands and/or independent singer-songwriters in expanding their artistry, teaching belt and cross-training legit/classical singers in pop/rock. As a classically trained Coloratura Soprano, I enjoy preparing classical music enthusiasts for their auditions, gigs and recitals. With a Doctorate in Vocal Performance, I am able to use my extensive knowledge of today's cutting edge vocal practices to help my students navigate and thrive within the current industry standards. I'm obsessed with the vocal arts and am a proud supporter of the performing arts in the NOVA/DC Metro communities. My goal as a teacher is to provide musicians and music enthusiasts with the skills to express complex ideas through music using artistic creativity and critical thinking. Above all, I take pride in helping vocalists find joy in singing.

Ceri is the most wonderful voice teacher. She has been my teacher for almost a year now and with each lesson, Ceri makes me feel confident in my singing. She has helped me identify my strengths and gives helpful techniques to help me grow and challenge myself in ways I could never have done on my own. Through her teaching, I've learned that my voice is much more powerful than I ever knew that it has the capacity to express so many different colors and layers and depths - and Ceri has given me the necessary skills to tap into that breadth. She adapts each lesson to what my goals are and has truly partnered with me to meet them. She is a true expert in her field!

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For my In-Home Lessons, yes. I charge $75 for 45 minutes of instruction. I also work at two community music schools. Cardon Studios of DC charges $175-$275 for monthly subscriptions and The Music Loft in Northern VA offer 8 week packages starting at $350.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first lesson is a meet and greet diagnostic lesson. It takes about 4-6 weeks for a student and teacher to build a learning relationship. The teacher has to figure out how best the student learns and the student has to learn the teacher's lesson vocabulary. Also, the voice is an incredibly personal thing. It takes a few weeks for the student to open up and show a teacher what they've truly got. The first lesson target is for the teacher to hear the voice and work with the student to understand their long term goals and set short term goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a terminal degree (Doctor of Musical Arts) in vocal performance. This means I've trained exclusively for 10 years to learn the craft of singing and stage performance inside-and-out. I understand the voice and how if function on an anatomical level. My extensive training equips me with the ability to teach virtually any voice in any style.
