Chris has been awesome with our Akita. She has shown great progress after the training.

Chris was very professional and very interested in our dog and in our needs. We made the decision to hire someone that works extensively with handicap owners that need a service dog. However, we have recommended Chris to several of our friends that are looking for a trainer.

Cris was great to work with, and we would highly recommend him! His fees are reasonably priced, and he trains with very logical methods that are easy to continue on your own. He is very passionate about helping dogs and their owners and is very knowledgeable!

    Cris is truly talented.
Cris is very thorough and we like him so much that we are signing him on for an additional 6 weeks. Our rescue dog has learned basic skills in the first 6 weeks and is now moving on the more advanced stuff, including tricks. We are thrilled with his ability to gain the dog's immediate attention and look forward to seeing how far we can go with this.

    Would not recommend
Chris cancelled my appointment the day of and never really made an effort to meet after that.

Thank you for your review. I apologize for cancelling same day. That is not normal policy for eK9a. It is unfortunate you aren’t available on the days I have openings as I would love to be involved in your dog Savannah’s training. Send me an email and I will try to rework my schedule to get you scheduled.

    Couldn't be more pleased!
We did a 6 week obedience training with Cris and are so pleased with the progress we've seen in our 11 month old Blue Heeler! Cris catered each lesson to Aussie's progress and our specific concerns, and we came away with a lot of great tools to help us with the specific issues we've been having. Specifically, Aussie was uncontrollable on the leash when other dogs were around. Now 6 weeks later, we know how to regain Aussie's attention and keep him focused on us. We are MUCH more comfortable going out for walks because of it! As a plus, Cris is super flexible when scheduling trainings and meets you for your convenience! We definitely plan to call back Expert K9 Academy for more advanced courses in the future!

    Great Experience, awesome Trainer
Cris was great to work with. Easy to follow instructions and examples. Noticeable improvement with the dogs as we progressed with the weekly classes. Sends weekly emails that summarize the things to be worked on during the week before the next session. Extremely friendly and helpful. Obviously loves working with the animals and all around a great experience.

Layla did such a good job with our dog Sadie. Even better is that we can always bring her back if we run into problems.

Cris came to my house once a week for 6 weeks to help my 8 month old puppy with her training. He was great. Answered all of my endless questions and really made sure we understood what he was teaching us. Luna (my dog) took to him from the start, and is almost a completely new dog! So well behaved now and has learned all sorts of new tricks. I'm very happy with my experience and definitely recommend him!

Cris helped me with general obedience that my dog seriously lacked. With just s few sessions he had completely stopped all jumping behavior as well as giving us some general obedience training and a place command, which my girl absolutely loves! Thanks Cris for all the help! Azzura and I are very greatful!

Chris was fantastic! My little husky was pulling and pulling on the leash so much it was impossible to take her anywhere. In a few short sessions he had her walking in a nice loose leash heel. Turns out the harness was encouraging my little husky pull more and more! I tell you what, I will be coming to Expert K9 Academy any time I need help getting my pups to listen! Thank you so much!!!!

Chris did an amazing job with my dog JJ! He was very professional and understanding. My dog will stay on place now while we eat dinner, and he no longer tries to beg. He and my other dog are getting along now, too. Thank you so much, Chris!

Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The very first thing I do with a new customer is to complete a training and behavior evaluation. This determines owner needs sets the path for future training.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Certified Canine Training and Behavior Specialist I have been training my own dogs for the last 12 years. I have titled 2 dogs in Agility and taken both of them through basic and intermediate obedience. I am a recent graduate of Starmark Academy for Professional Dog Trainers in Hutto, TX. It is an intense 12 week full immersion program that extensively covered: • Basic Obedience • Intermediate Obedience and • Advanced Obedience • Behavior Modification • Advance Clicker Training • Agility Training • Service Dog Training • Defensive Dog Handling • Teaching group and private classes • Kennel Management • Business Techniques
How did you get started doing this type of work?
In 2004 after I retired from competitive cycling I needed something to do instead of riding 30 or 40 miles a day training. Since I have been a dog lover my whole life I decided to get a couple dogs and start the training process needed to compete in Agility. I found a breeder and bought two Cairn Terrier littermates, Devlin and Riley. These guys were seven weeks old so I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me to reach my goals. The first thing I did was to housebreak and crate train my two puppies. Then I found a dog trainer named Jenny Baum who taught group classes and private lessons. I decided to take her Puppy Kindergarten class to help socialize my dogs and teach them some house manners. I liked Jenny’s balanced approach to training so I continued mine and my dogs education with Basic and Intermediate Obedience. After Devlin and Riley were pretty good at Obedience we started Agility training. A year after starting to train we did our first competition. Just after one season both Riley and Devlin were titled in Novice Agility. Throughout the training process I learned how to train my dogs in both Obedience, Home Manners and Agility. After Devlin and Riley retired from competition I decided to become a dog trainer myself. I attended Starmark Academy for Professional Dog Trainers. It is a twelve week, full immersion school. For three months we ate, breathed, and slept dogs. Starmark teaches a balanced approach to dog training. We learned how to teach a dog everything from Basic Obedience to Narcotics Detection. We learned how to conduct group and private lessons to better the dog and the owners life. A happy dog is a trained dog. A happy owner has a trained dog.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Rescue Organizations Service Dog Organizations Individuals
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I worked 3 months with a dog name Lady to train her up to advanced obedience and the beginning of service work. She would go on the get more specific training and be assigned to a disabled American Veteran.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Talk to them face to face first. Ask a lot of questions about your needs, what can be done, and the best way to approach your goals.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
What is your top priority when it comes to training your dog.
