Jay is a hardworking, detail oriented, and budget conscious contractor. He is also an invaluable design companion with the ability to transform vague ideas and even feelings into concrete practical projects. Jay helped us to remodel a master bedroom and powder room in our pre-war Oak Park condo. Our master bedroom had a sore inducing pink tile with cracks all over and an iron tub with a lousy resurface job. Jay gave us new sharp looking walls with a stone lookalike floor tile imported from Spain and a spectacular medicine cabinet. He replaced the tub and pink tiles with simple yet elegant white subway tile with remarkable details like a stone window sill and petite corner shelves. Before the renovation, the powder room was the tiniest room you can possible imagine but Jay worked some serious magic there. He again replaced the existing (and ugly) tiles with new walls and reorganized the layout of the sink to squeeze out every last usable inch out of the room. The end result was and cute and elegant bathroom. Above all Jay is a good listener and an excellent communicator. There weren't any real surprises because he would discuss every possible outcome beforehand and we were well informed when things didn't go as planned. He was always open to discuss cheaper options when possible and there wasn't a single time he said something couldn't be done. Other contractors laughed at us (incredible, I know) when we asked even for simple things like relocating a power outlet or replacing a flush-o-meter toilet but not Jay. He always found a way to get it done. Lastly the initial budget stayed pretty much unchanged except for some truly unexpected surprises that were unrelated to Jay. My wife and I feel very good with what we paid and the project outcome. I will certainly hire Jay again for other projects.

Jay Brenner is a professional's professional - clean work area, product knowledgeable, a craftsman. I was quite intimidated by all of the decisions I needed to make (selection of materials, colors, etc.). Jay had the experience to guide me through the process and had the vision (which I lacked) to ensure that the finished job was both functional AND gorgeous. I highly recommend him.

Jay Brenner was an absolute pleasure to work with. He remodeled our bathroom and kitchen for us and i must say we are very happy with our new kitchen and bathroom. He was very helpful in all aspects of the job from design,helping to choose the right fixtures,suggesting colors,picking tiles and appliances. His electrician and plumber were licensed ind insured and tops in their field.The job sight was left clean through out the project. I would highly recommend Jay to any one planning any type of home renovation project.

Jay showed up on time, did great work and was clean and professional. He even came in on a Saturday as well as Sunday over the weekend to wrap up job (hope he doesn't mind me saying that!). Almost all of my work is customized to the needs of my clients. Each project is priced after a meeting with the client, an evaluation of the existing conditions and a review of what is to be done.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Meet with the client at the job site. Discuss the scope and objectives of the project. Develop a plan on how to move forward. Provide a detailed proposal, specifications and drawings as required. (There are charges for sets of working drawings.) Set a start date.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Numerous training courses by Schlüter Systems on the applications, specifications and installations of their various waterproofing, tile setting and radiant heat systems. Certified Master Fabricator of the major brands of solid surfacing materials. Author of editorial column covering homeowner repairs called Ask Jay in Berkshires Best. 42 years of on the job training.
