Introduction: Suzanne Karpov is a Washington DC based soprano who is quickly gaining recognition for her "captivating presence" and her "incredible musicality". Ms. Karpov recently graduated from University of Maryland, College Park, where she earned the degree of Master of Music in opera performance as a member of the Maryland Opera Studio. Previously, she earned her bachelor's degree from Boston University in vocal performance (magna cum laude). This upcoming season, Ms. Karpov will be performing in several DC concerts, including her debut with The Washington Bach Consort and a performance of The Makropulos Affair in the role of Emilia Marty at the Czech Embassy. This past summer, Ms. Karpov was an apprentice artist at the prestigious Bel Canto at Caramoor International Music Festival, under the direction of Will Crutchfield. Her most recent roles include Berenice in Rossini's L'occasione fa il Ladro, Miss Pinkerton in Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief, La chauve-souris/Une pastourelle in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortileges, and Despina in Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte, all with the Maryland Opera Studio. Other favorite roles include Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the Atlantic Music Festival, Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with the American Singers' opera project, and Adina in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore with Carroll Opera. Ms. Karpov also premiered the role of Justice Ruth Ginsburg in Derrick Wang's opera Scalia/Ginsburg with the Maryland Opera Studio in February 2014, and performed scenes at the National Constitution Center in the presence of Justice Ginsburg and Justice Breyer. In competition, Ms. Karpov most recently received an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in DC. Other awards in competition include the Donizetti Award at the Orpheus Vocal Competition (2015), third place in the Five Towns Competition (2014), and second place in the Classical Singer Competition (University Division, 2013). Ms. Karpov is available for voice and piano lessons in the DMV area and is accepting students of all ages and levels. It is her desire to reveal to her students their true potential and that anything is possible with dedication and hard work.

Suzanne is an amazing and inspiring voice instructor. She had great instincts at knowing exactly what I needed and helped me take my voice to be next level. I am much more confident and free when I sing using the techniques she taught me. She is so caring and passionate . I highly recommend her lessons to anyone who wants to really improve their voice !! Xx

    I like to start off with new students by asking them what their goals are. It's important to set goals so that we have something to work toward. We continue to evaluate these goals and monitor progress because it's important to recognize growth!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

    I recently graduated from the University of Maryland, Maryland Opera Studio, with my Master of Music in Opera Performance. Prior to my masters, I graduated from Boston University with my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance (magna cum laude.)
