And gut-wrenching, soul-siphoning transformation can seem unsurvivable. Yet this is precisely how we rebirth ourselves. And, it's what I love most about being a coach.
As an ICF certified coach, I bring 30+ years of professional experience -- in coaching, human resources, training, consulting, and management. Having worked in traditional corporations, not-for-profit organizations, governmental entities, and as an entrepreneur, I have conducted over 1500 hours of life, academic, professional and executive coaching.
I have also completed 250+ hours of formal coach training through recognized ICF training programs. I bring a high tech / high touch approach to each coaching relationship -- to ensure that each coachee attains his or her goals, and to empower him or her to navigate decisions more confidently.

Cathy Winterfield is an outstanding coach. Cathy's true passion in life is to help others. Cathy's total focus and energy is directed towards helping and empowering her clients. Cathy's amazing listening skills combined with her expert knowledge of psychology and sociology gives her incredible insight. Having been estranged from my daughter for 7 months, I reached out to Cathy for coaching once I had the opportunity to respond to a long-awaited first message from her. I needed help, and Cathy was there.
As part of her coaching, Cathy commented on each of the communications that I drafted to my daughter. By walking with me about these emails -- and helping me look closely and in a different way at my responses -- Cathy helped me to begin to work through the estrangement, from a coaching approach.
Before this, for a long time my daughter and I had danced the same familiar dances that were showing up in these emails. And, these always seemed to drive a wedge between us. Under Cathy's guidance, I considered making significant changes to my messages in order to limit defensiveness - from both myself and my adult child - and to avoid raising issues more likely to provide further fuel for argument.
And, as I reframed my responses to my daughter, I also reframed how I thought about, and experienced, this estrangement.
Cathy is always non-judgmental and gives feedback with compassion, love and kindness, which makes it much easier to hear and consider reflectively. As the process continued, I felt more empowered and gained confidence. I always returned to her for guidance and was met with patience when I repeated some mistakes and reverted to type. She identified any major stumbling blocks that were likely to produce a negative response from my child.
Slowly I have made the first tentative steps toward a reunion. There is still a long way to go but a new foundation is now under construction.
I would highly recommend seeking unbiased, wise and experienced professional coaching if faced with this set of circumstances and I cannot imagine anyone better than Cathy to provide this service. I may well require further coaching in the future and recognize that I have yet to work through my own anger and sorrow sufficiently but, for now, the fact that my child and I are back in touch is enough.
I know I could not have got to the position that I am now in without the help of Cathy, my mentor and coach and am always going to be grateful for finding her to help me along during a major crisis in my life.
