Introduction: As a 23 year old student at the University of Colorado Boulder, I believe I bring a fresh new personality and teaching style to the scene. I connect personally with younger students, I have a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance, and will be graduating again this coming Spring 2018 with a degree in music education and a teaching certificate. I am a diverse, multi-faceted musician that is well-versed in many genres and ways of educating. As a result I am able to create a musical environment that supports and caters to each individual learner, making them feel comfortable both musically and emotionally. My goal is to inspire a love of music, whatever that may look like for each individual. Teaching is my passion, and creating interpersonal relationships through what I love most - music - inspires me every day. Passing on the knowledge I have learned from experience and other educators over the past 18 years gives me joy and a sense of great fulfillment.

Hannah Joy is a competent, warm and engaging piano teacher. As an adult student with a great deal of musical training (but no piano), I was concerned. She did a great job of "diagnosing" where to start: helped me focus on learning to read the bass clef, and then providing me with assignments that were fun, rewarding and accessible - while quickly stretching me. I also am in relationship with the parent of one of her teenage students, and have heard exceptional feedback. This gal had shown next to no interest when studying with her previous teacher, but caught fire under Hannah Joy's direction. I believe Hannah Joy is the perfect blend of structured and flexible, informed but accessible. A great choice for either kids or adults.

Hannah Joy is an excellent piano teacher for my two children. She is an extremely talented musician with a wealth of academic and performance experience in both piano and voice. She brings her personal experience with learning and practicing piano as a child to bear, which the kids appreciate and can relate to. She is patient, yet expects the kids to respect the hard work it takes to learn the new language of music. She makes lessons fun, paces the learning well, understands the differences between each child and their abilities and personalities, and tailors lessons to the child. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for high quality piano lessons for their children. We feel lucky that she will be staying in Boulder to complete her graduate work in music education!

Hannah Joy has been my daughter's teacher for two years. My daughter looks forward to lessons and practicing and has developed by leaps and bounds as a musician under Hannah Joy's guidance. Hannah Joy engages my daughter in choosing pieces to learn that are across musical genres. Hannah Joy brings a sense of play to lessons and provides direct, clear, and helpful feedback. What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from Denver School of the Arts in 2012 as a piano major and earned by Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder in May 2016. I will be completing my second Bachelor's degree in Music Education and receiving a teaching license this coming Spring 2018. I have been teaching privately in Boulder for 5 years and have been employed at the Colorado School of Music in Golden for 4 years. I have been the piano accompanist and music director at RINN United Methodist Church for the past 2 years, and have been a member of the top choir at CU Boulder for the past 5 years.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with many different students from ages 4-60, male and female.
