I was really impressed by how quickly Alex was able to do a high-quality repair job in our attic after a wind storm had done some structural damage. He seemed absolutely focused yet was perfectly friendly and professional, and I felt as comfortable having him in the house while I was there and while I was not. I was also very pleased that he didn’t leave any kind of a mess for me to have to deal with after he left, as I had not had this experience with other contractors in the past. He accurately estimated how long it would take to do the job, and then charged me a very fair price. I would absolutely recommend North Point Carpentry and Maintenance, and I would call upon Alex in the future for another job.

Alex Smith will show up at your place when he said he was going to show up, he'll give you a mighty handshake, and then he'll get to work--and he'll work like three men. He has worked for us for over three years, so we know what we're talking about. He comes from a family of carpenters and boatbuilders, and I have to say, building is in his DNA code. He's that throw-back from another time. He's driven, he's talented, and he has a huge heart. Hire him. He'll amaze you; he already has amazed me.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
All of my estimates/bids are free, and I’ll happily provide a free on-site consultation. After that, I start at $50/hr on tile jobs that are done on a Time and Materials and $60/hr for trim work.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Generally I start with a face-to-face meeting at the job site, where we talk about what needs to be done and what materials will be used. I’ll offer my opinion, but also listen to what the customer brings to the table from their own research. Then I’ll generally go home and write a quote that night, and if it’s approved get started as soon as possible!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
While my college education is in teaching, I bring a lifetime of experience to the table, having been working in the industry since I was a teenager.
