Introduction: Welcome to Merkel Farm, a family owned and operated equestrian center run by Stephanie Serenati-Merke. Merkel Farm is nestled between Bowie State University and the Patuxent Wildlife Preserve in Bowie, MD and is within easy reach from the Washington D.C., Annapolis and Baltimore metro areas. We have miles of trails, a lighted indoor and outdoor rings, which allows for riding horses and horseback riding lessons to be conducted year round. We have two barns and separately fenced fields for turnout. The outdoor and indoor rings are dragged throughout the year to maintain optimal footing for horses. We offer a great facility for riding lessons for the young and old. Excellent and patient instruction. Our horses and facility are well taken care of and the students love it here.

I have been riding a Merkel Farm for about eight years. I have been a camper at their summer camp and am now boarding my first horse there. I have known the owner Stephanie Merkel for quite some time now and she is a wonderful person and instructor. She is very passionate about her work with her horses. As an instructor, she is patient, understanding, kind, and really does care about her students and wanting them to be the best they can be. The facilities are great with an indoor riding arena and an outdoor riding arena. The lesson horse are the best part, they are kind and willing for their riders. I have really come a long way with Merkel Farm and I just love it so much there. It really is my home away from home.

Been riding here for over five years and absolutely love it! The horses are perfect for all levels of riding and everyone there is so nice. Counseling the summer camp is such a fun experience too the kids are always so much fun!

Have been with Merkel Farm for over 2 yrs & it has one of the best lesson programs in the great DC & Baltimore areas!. Adorable kids learning from very basic horse & safety rules, to becoming accomplished riders. We also have a blast taking our riders to shows! Parents are very involved & have actually had some moms taking lessons! Come by & visit us all at Merkel Farm!

Safety is always first. Ms. Stephanie has a heart for training both new and experienced riders and makes the barn feel like a second home. We have enjoyed years of horsing around with lessons, team, summer camps and meeting new friends.

Private lessons - $65 Group lessons - $40 Summer Camp - $325
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We would like you to call us or stop by the barn during open hours. We can set up a date and time for you to stop by the barn to check it out or take a lesson right off the bat.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Stephanie Merkel has over 50 years of training and experience with horses. Her family owns horses and her sister is a trainer. Stephanie works with adults to a local Therapeutic Riding program. She is proficient in dressage and jumping.
