Introduction

As a Personal Chef, I don't mass produce the food that I prepare. That sets me apart from others that provide catering services. My service is very personal and custom to the client. I pride myself on preparing beautiful food that is wonderful to eat! I truly believe I was born to cook. It is a gift. It is also an honor for me to be a part of celebrations of all types. Any event creates a memory and being a part of that brings me great pleasure as food is a focal point to any celebration!

I chose Chef Cathy to provide the food for my daughter’s bridal shower. We had a Couple’s Shower, so I knew I needed much more food than if I just had a ladies only shower. I had never hired a personal chef (or caterer) before, so I really had no idea what to expect in terms of cost, choices, quality/quantity of food, reliability etc. I can honestly say I felt like I hit the jackpot when I found Chef Cathy! From start to finish, everything was perfect! We talked about the event I was planning, she asked about my daughter and her fiancé to get to know a little about them and then Cathy immediately started rattling off ideas for dishes that sounded incredible...and they were...phenomenal!! This, to me was the difference between hiring a personal chef like Cathy and a caterer! Cathy’s dishes were all unique which I loved...not your typical large group fare that you expect to see. But, never having hired a personal chef before, I was really nervous about what it was going to cost. Cathy was so reasonable in what she charged for the delicious food and service she provided! Cathy showed up right when she said she would with all of this fabulous food in beautiful serving dishes! We were given clear instructions for everything we needed to do before serving (which was almost nothing...pour dressing on a salad, take something out of the oven) Our guests raved about the food and wanted to know where on earth I found her! I knew then I’d made the perfect choice in hiring Chef Cathy! I obviously cannot say enough good things about Chef Cathy (sorry this is so long)!! I took a leap of faith I guess hiring a personal chef when I’d never tasted her food before, but I couldn’t have been happier that I did!! I will definitely have Chef Cathy for any and all events I have in the future!!

Chef Cathy provided a perfect evening for us. She talked to me on the phone before the event and made sure that she understood everything that I wanted and she delivered. Her service was warm and attentive and all of the food was seasoned and presented perfectly. I also felt like I met a wonderful person. She came in prepared and set up with out any help from me and when she left the kitchen looked like she was never here. You will love her food and service. Thank you Cathy, you are the Best!!!!

Our experience with Chef Cathy was an absolute delight from start to finish. I’ve hosted many catered parties both large and small and I can honestly say Chef Cathy’s dependability and culinary talent were top notch. I found her on a Google search as we wanted to host a catered dinner following our son’s graduation in Ann Arbor. Cathy contacted me immediately upon filling out a form on Thumbtack. I was drawn to her personable profile and previous menus. She was always responsive throughout our two months of planning and easily accommodated our various requests. It was so much fun planning the menu with her! We knew that we would be out all day at multiple ceremonies, so Cathy and her team needed to come to our rental house, set up and cook before we arrived back to the house. The evening proceeded without a hitch! Chef Cathy provided delicious and unique appetizers to start followed by a lovely plated dinner for 9 people. Her timing of each course was perfect! We enjoyed unique Lemon-Basil Marinated Shrimp in Parmesan Cups as one of the three appetizers. In perfect coordination, we sat down to a plated meal that included delicious and moist Chicken with Lemon & Artichokes, Asparagus Bundles, and Wild Rice Salad with Artichokes. Several overflowing plates of petite homemade bars and cakes followed for dessert. Cathy even presented our son with a special gift of a framed photo of his final college art project! Throughout dinner, Cathy and her assistant, John, made sure we had plenty of wine and second helpings. To top off a perfect evening, all dishes were cleared, cleaned and put away. This is top notch service and professionalism. Our entire group agreed that having Chef Cathy far exceeded any experience we would have had at a restaurant. I’m only sad that she doesn’t live closer to our home in Los Angeles! We loved Chef Cathy!!

Chef Cathy from SMS Personal Chef catered a thirty person baby shower at our home, and we could not have been more pleased. From planning to the day of the event they could not have been more professional and helpful to us. I can honestly say that they exceeded our expectations. Our guests all commented on the quality of the food and the creative presentation.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Menu's are custom creations based on specific client needs/wishes. Lunch prices begin at $16 per person. Weekly meal service is reserved for current clients. There is a $50 menu creation and consultation fee. There is a distance fee for travel beyond 25 miles.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It is important that a conversation about what the customer is looking for in detail occurs. Often the customer isn't really sure what they want or of the details involved in an event, a cooking class or custom meals. Sometimes a person has never done any of the services I offer before. That is where my fourteen years of experience comes in. I also have the customer fill out a detailed questionnaire for meals or an event. I then review the questionnaire and we talk about the information provided so I am clear on their likes/dislikes and wishes. Communication is key in any relationship.

I am a graduate of the United States Personal Chef Association (USPCA).
