Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I'm an organist, pianist, singer, guitarist and double bassist working in classical, pop, and experimental music. I've taught instrumental lessons and classes in composition and theory for many years, to everyone from elementary-age students to college professors. I received my master's in composition from Wesleyan University, and my bachelor's in composition and linguistics from Oberlin Conservatory. Beyond engaging each student's specific musical interests, I'm most invested in teaching concrete skills that cultivate focus and awareness so as to foster musical discovery. My goal is for every lesson to offer techniques that advance the student's skill while also pushing their interests in new directions.

Ron taught beginner and intermediate guitar to my elementary and middle school aged daughters. He's patient and funny and the girls enjoyed their lessons and advanced quickly. They couldn't wait for him to come every week with new music to learn. I recommend him as a great teacher!

Ron was an excellent bass teacher for my son. He was always professional and reliable, and he actually got my middle schooler excited to go to a scheduled lesson! He helped my son get a good handle on the fundamentals, and also went the extra mile to recommend some particular bass music that he thought he would like! Ron clearly loves music and teaching, and my son loves his lessons. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a double bass teacher!

I can't say enough how much my family loves Mr. Ron. My 7-year-old daughter actually looked forward to her piano lessons with him!! He is an excellent teacher and a wonderfully patient person. We are so grateful to have found such a gifted teacher--highly recommended!

I took piano lessons with Ron. I was a beginner with very little experience and now I feel very capable when I look at a new piece of music. Ron even trained my ear to lead me well beyond the written page. Now, I'm able to pick out chord progressions and play along with friends at parties! I look forward to our lessons every week. Ron always has great new music for me to learn, and great new music for me to listen to!

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We'll begin by talking about your musical background (however much or little experience you have), the kinds of music that interest you, and some potential goals for working together. These might be learning to play a particular kind of style, a particular piece or song, being able to play along with friends and family, or honing in on refining your technique. You'll find that studying music doesn't lead to endpoints, but to new and further skills and interests to explore. I'll work with you as far as you want to go!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have studied and performed as a classical pianist my whole life, in chamber ensembles, pit orchestras, and as an accompanist. I pursued conservatory performance training on the double bass, and the bass remains my greatest teaching passion. However in conservatory my interests shifted to composition, both for traditional acoustic instruments and electronic instruments. Currently, I mostly perform as an electric guitarist and organist, and I write music for various classical and experimental ensembles as well as for my own pop project.
