Introduction: I play a wide array of events from corporate, weddings, parties, concerts, etc. and have a private studio where I enjoy teaching students guitar. I have just a few spots open in the week that I'm looking to fill with potential students! I specialize in classical and acoustic fingerstyle guitar. I can also teach blues, rock, and electric guitar. I have played in many weddings, corporate events, and concerts over the years, and have won the 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, and 2015 WeddingWire.com couples choice awards for providing outstanding service and performances in weddings. My recordings have been featured on 99.5 Classical Minnesota Public Radio and 88.5 Jazz FM, and I have enjoyed playing concerts across the state.
Aside from performing, I have taught students of all ages many different styles of guitar while specializing in classical guitar. Styles I teach include classical, folk, fingerstyle, rock, metal, bossa nova, among other styles. I prefer teaching out of the Charles Duncan "Modern Approach to Classical Guitar" books, but can also teach from books a student has been learning from. I like to incorporate music theory in lessons as the student advances to help make sense of the patterns and sequences that occur throughout music. As far as gigs I get hired to play, you will not find a more eclectic guitarist. My repertoire includes favorites from many different eras and styles, including classical, contemporary, pop classics, folk, and jazz among others.
I enjoy working with students who have a desire and passion to improve their skills, whether they are strumming their first chord, or playing advanced pieces. Each week I like to see a student progress and build upon the lessons they have taken with me. Witnessing a students musical growth over the years makes me reflect on the progress I set out for each student in the first place and makes teaching worthwhile.
I enjoy providing memories in events I play in, and introducing students to new pieces of music, and inspiring new students to put a lot of work into getting their abilities aligned with their goals. Watching a student progress from playing their first note, to being able to complete a full piece of music with confidence is inspiring and rewarding.
Pertaining to gigs, I still get past wedding customers sending me thank you emails many years after I performed in their wedding. Receiving pictures of their newborns is also something I will cherish, as I was a memorable part of their wedding.
