Introduction: The Southeast Asian Martial Arts of Kali and Silat are magical anti aging tools. Excellent for women, men, children and even special needs. Aside from being ancient Filipino warrior martial art used to fend off the Spanish for over 300 years, Kali has been seen such films as The Bourne Identity and even Enter The Dragon with Bruce Lee! These arts help keep the mind sharp as a tack and the body supple and limber at any age. The Filipino Martial Arts (Kali) can be trained at any pace slow like a Tai Chi speed or ramped up for heavy cardio. You can train way past your prime. And instead of doing crossword puzzles you can move your body and train your mind at the same time. Getting up and and balance improves dramatically at any age. These arts train your body, your mind, and do wonders for your spirit. This practice is a natural antidepressant, along with weight loss, toning, flexibility, speed, and power. We draw from Bruce Lee's JKD, Muay Thai, Silat, Kali and Capoeira. I am a certified Guro/Instructor in both Kali and Silat under the 80 year old living/healthy legend Guro Dan Inosanto! Many of his students are over 40 years old. 50, 60, and even well into their 70's! These art were featured in a TEDx Talk at UCLA called Cognitive Kali in which I participated in May of 2016. The future of anti aging involves ancient lessons from the past. I am also a professional musician and music teacher with over 30 years of experience. Sometimes I will add drumming into our training for fun, coordination, and energy!
I enjoy seeing my students get it! I like watching their movement improve week to week. And the smile on their faces while training. I enjoy passing on the lessons I have learned from my master teachers and in turn watching my students share this information with family and friends. I also enjoy the friendships I have made through this practice and being part of the bigger picture of making the world a better place by understanding different cultures through martial art.
