Sit down and see what their desires are. See what they plan to put into it and what they plan to get out of it. Tell a little about how I work and see where their skill level is.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I began reading music and playing drums in lessons at about 5 years old. My dad used to read the instructions as I played the lessons. My first teacher said I was way too young and would never get it. My first music class in school was in the 4th grade where I played the violin and discovered without a doubt I was meant to play percussion. In 5th grade I joined the school band. most students my age were just learning their instruments and I had been taking formal lessons for nearly 8 years. Following 5th grade I went to a summer music camp with high school and college musicians to enhance my performance skills. Following my 6th grade year I went to two summer music camps before moving to Westerville with my parents. In the summer before my 7th grade year I performed in the community production of 1776 and a pit percussionist. I was classically trained in Jazz and Orchestral percussion for 14 years from some of the finest teachers in central Ohio. In high school I was principal percussionist for the orchestra, and 2 years in the symphonic band as well as 1 year in the marching band. I performed in 7 musicals as the principal percussionist and played in several project bands with the the music majors from Otterbein College and OSU. During HS I also participated in DCI drumlines and after I aged out worked with them as a tech. After HS my drumming became a part time job as I worked professionally as a firefighter paramedic. I've played in commercials, musicals, various bands, and recording studios as a session drummer. In my 51 years playing drums I have had many learning and teaching assignments and my posted videos are of the current band I play with. There are not many genre's out there that I've not tried or mastered.
