Introduction: I teach a blend of classical Suzuki method and traditional fiddle styles including (but not limited to) old-time, bluegrass, Irish, and swing. It is my personal philosophy that some of the best violin techniques have been developed for classical musicians, but fiddling and improvisation brings a vital element of fun and spontaneity that classical music does not give every student. Lessons in my studio include a strong emphasis on learning by ear, but also introduce music reading, and, for kids, require a fair amount of parent involvement. Younger students can also expect some singing, clapping, and games! I have been teaching violin (fiddle) to children since I was 15 years old. I have found it to be the perfect blend of my two greatest passions: music and working with kids. In the last couple of years, I've also enjoyed working with adults, which brings a new set of challenges as well as a faster pace, more student-led lesson plans, and lots of interesting conversations!

We LOVE Josie! She's a fantastic teacher for my son, she understands his goals and his learning style, and is so patient with him even though he can be a bit scatter-brained. She's awesome!

Josie is an amazing violin teacher! I took lessons from her for about a year and I really appreciate her time, attentiveness, and dedication to helping me improve my violin skills. I had to stop due to work hours and getting a stage 2 AC separation, but I would love to start back up once my bow shoulder is in better condition :) I highly recommend her!
