There are a lot of Pet Sitters and Dog Walkers on Cape Cod, and they provide an important service to pet owners. We take the pet sitting business model to the next level by offering a dog running service too! This really separates us from the pack. Dog running clients come home happy and tired. A typical 30 minute run will burn about as much energy as a 2 1/2 hour walk!

For over 3 years, K9 Cardio provided the best service for me and my 6-year old Havapoo, Lola. Lola loves the staff and has a ball hanging with the other dogs. She is super healthy and happy because of her 3-x-a-week runs. Jason and Laura are very responsive and super-trustworthy. I couldn't do without them!

I have been using K9cardio for a year now. My experience began with dog walking. They were always on time , always left a note about my 2 dogs' behavior, and only heavy snow prevented them from coming to walk them. My dogs have met all the employees, who are good friends now to all of us! I started traveling because I felt so comfortable leaving my dogs with Jason, Laura, and the gang, who took turns staying at my house-- the ideal arrangement for us (They even sent photos and notes to me about them while I was gone!). K9cardio is one of the best things about our move to the Cape.

Jason has been looking after our house during the winter for several years now. He has been reliable and resourceful. We have had problems twice that he has just dealt with so we feel very confident that we can leave our house in his care. Home care is not the primary business but I met Jason through the town dog shelter were I volunteered and he was involved in fund raising. He and his wife are just very competent people who will do a good job in whatever they undertake.

Pet sitting for two large dogs(our kids) for a week. Daily notes about their well being; pics of them as well on walks; Couldn't be happier. Dogs echoed the same.

Perhaps egocentrically, we feel our two goldens do best with a home routine and suffer when even well-meaning dog walkers take over their leashes. What a great relief and freeing discovery to find Jason and Laura and the very professional CapeK9Cardio service. Instead of attention-starved, thirsty dogs we have found our guys in great shape, enthusiastic, and looking good after being in the care of CapeK9. Our senior dog, now 13, seems to even gain fitness and mobility. Clearly the exercise so prominently featured in the CapeK9 program is tailored to give the guys a work out but not over-extend old bones. I would recommend the Cape K9 services to any dog-lover who is looking for the quality of care worthy of home.

Laura and Jason walk my two dogs twice a week. They are wonderful with the dogs, very reliable, and super personable. They even take and send cute pictures of the pups during their walks.

These guys have been running our pups and providing awesome pet sitting for over 8 years! The checklist they use is very comprehensive. You will know every detail while you were gone. I like how they send photos of our dogs having fun while we're away.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began running in 2005, for a healthier lifestyle. My running partner was my Jack Russell Terrier, Hunter. He’s run just about everywhere with me during my training runs for the Cape Cod Marathon. On days that Hunter ran, I noticed a marked improvement in his disposition. He became friendlier, more submissive, and overall happier. Granted, he’s still a Jack Russell, but there seemed to be a correlation between the amount of exercise he received and his level of happiness. I conducted research, started the website and visited local dog businesses. Everyone I talked to thought this was a great idea. My wife and I decided to offer a dog running service to other dog owners. Soon after we added dog and cat pet sitting and dog walking to our services.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We've worked with homeless dogs at the Friends of Falmouth Dogs and held fundraisers for them and the two dog parks in the area (Falmouth and Mashpee). Our Falmouth, Mashpee and Bourne clients are pet lovers from every walk of life!
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
We worked with two anxious Siberian Huskies in Bourne when their owner was down for back surgery. At first they were not comfortable walking. After just a few sessions they came to greet us at the door and couldn't wait to walk. Dallas and Kira became part of the K9Cardio Pack and were a joy to bond with.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

During our dog exercise sessions (dog running, dog walking and dog playgroups) we constantly monitor your pet’s well-being while having fun and enjoying healthy and rewarding exercise. Compare walking and running below, consult with your veterinarian, and sign up for the exercise that best suits your dog. Calorie Burning based on a 70 lb dog: 30 minute dog walk – 54 calories 30 minute dog run – 251 calories So most dogs are suited for running? Dogs are natural born runners. They feel a sense of purpose while they are running, and after a few minutes, even the most stubborn dog will ignore distractions and concentrate on enjoying the run. We will safely allow your dog to determine the pace and never push too hard. If you’d rather a walk, no problem. Walking, running and jogging are all great forms of exercise. How much exercise should my dog receive? Whether you have a Great Dane or a Yorkie, dogs typically need 30-45 minutes of exercise each day. This can be achieved through playtime, running, walking, swimming but we prefer K9Cardio! What safety precautions do you take? Please ensure your dog does not eat for 1 – 2 hours prior to exercise. During your dog’s exercise training session we will: Provide a warm-up and cool-down with each running or walking exercise session. Constantly monitor your dog’s well-being. Keep your dog on a leash (this gives us control when running or walking). Check your dog’s feet for the presence of debris. What should be done after an exercise session? After your dog’s exercise training session: Check carefully for ticks after each exercise session, especially if your dog has been on a trail. Check your dog’s feet for the presence of debris, and remove it immediately. Provide your dog with plenty of water.
