Introduction: We are the only Gracie Academy certified training center in the San Fernando Valley. We offer group classes Monday through Saturday and private lesson by appointment. Our passion is empowering individuals through martial arts training. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is designed to allow the weak to defeat the strong through leverage and technique. Gracie Combatives is our beginner program for adults. In this program, you will learn the 36-core techniques of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in a fun, safe, and cooperative environment.

Susan B. Anthony once said, "Woman must not depend upon the protection of man, but must be taught to protect herself. As the father of 3 daughters and martial arts instructor, I know and realize how important it is for all women, mothers, wives, college students and daughters to protect themselves against rapes and assaults. Not to mention that even though I am a martial arts instructor myself, sometimes your daughters want and need to train with someone else and with others, and not just with their Dad. I am a strong advocate for the non aggressive method of self defense.That's why I chose to have them train in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. My daughters love training at the Granada Hills Gracie Academy and I am extremely thankful for the attention and detail that both instructors Joe and Nelson give in the classes. One of my daughters is 19yrs. old with special needs and I am so thankful for Nelson's patience and for the attention that he gives her when he teaches her. She is fond of him, and he makes it fun for her and for my other 2 daughters. My oldest daughter loves that Joe challenges her skills to get better. I train at the Joe Piacetine's Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Granada Hills studio. While my focus is Shinkendo (I'm a Black Belt and Instructor training under Sensei Mathew Lynch) I have observed many adult classes of all levels, classes geared towards women's self-defense, and children's classes. All are taught with great skill and professionalism. As a martial artist and instructor of more than 44 years and counting, I appreciate well organized classes and enthusiastic and knowledgable teachers. This dojo has both. I highly recommend Joe's school as a great place to train. Excellent instructors for the women's self defense and the kid's bully proof classes. As a family we have learned so much here. This place is always clean and well ventilated. Love it here!!!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For group classes we charge $20 for drop in fee per class. Our monthly pricing structure begins at $99 per month. Our private lessons begin at $50 for a 1/2 hour session.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Step 1: Learn the Techniques We have divided the 36 Gracie Combatives techniques into 23 one-hour classes so that you can complete the course at your own pace. We designed each lesson so that you can start at any point in the course. As a result, you can complete the 23 lessons in any order. Upon enrolling, we will issue you a Gracie Combatives attendance card on which we will track your progress every step of the way. Step 2: Develop Your Reflexes Once you complete each of the 23 Gracie Combatives lessons twice, you will qualify to participate in the Reflex Development (RD) Classes where you will learn how to combine the 36 techniques to address the most common occurrences in a real fight. Step 3: Earn Your Blue Belt Once you complete each of the Gracie Combatives lessons three times, and youve completed at least 12 Reflex Development Classes, you are eligible to test for promotion to Blue Belt! We will administer a 25-minute test to assess your ability to execute the 36 essential techniques individually and in combination. If your performance meets Gracie Academy standards, you will qualify for promotion to blue belt and you will be allowed to attend our advanced Gracie Jiu-Jitsu program, the Master Cycle.
