husband……
“you are calling in an aquarium specialist for one betta fish?”
me……
“ yes, yes i am.”
I take my commitment to my pets very seriously…
I have had dogs and various other pets my whole life, but this was my first fish tank. A small 5 gallon fish tank with one betta fish, and i was making mistakes..
The first mistake was listening to all the conflicting advice all over the internet about fish keeping, and i put a fish into an un cycled tank, thinking i could do a fish in cycle.. how hard could it be, i thought. Surely the betta is better off here in my tank than in the wonton soup container in Petco.
Then I purchased a bottle of API ammo lock that had a broken seal. The ammo lock must have oxidized or something and did not lock the ammonia and I sent the fish into ammonia stress, and almost had a heart attack myself.
Then i was changing the water too much, with cheap thermometers and put water that was too cold into the tank and again shocked the fish… and had a second heart attack.
Then I put plants into my tank that came from those tanks in the store that have all of the plants in them.. thinking I was all smart, checking for snails and snail eggs,, little did i know about detritus worms..
So after i unknowingly put detritus worms in my tank.. which was still un cycled,
I went to thumbtack. I needed a professional.
Enter John.
He called me immediately.. I knew he was a salt water guy, and I literally have a fresh water nano tank with one fish, and I felt silly, but john treated me like I was his most important client, and that my fish was the most important fish on the planet.
He truly loves fish..
He came right over.. and he told me what to do and what not to do.
He changed my biomedia.. and he recommended different products than what i was using.
Told me when to feed the fish, when not to feed the fish..
and what do you know… John was able to get my tank cycled in little over one week.
and now that I have a cycle going he taught me how to keep the water crystal clear.
When I texted him with a question, and I had questions, he called me back before I could put the phone down. He is truly compassionate and dedicated.
And, i don’t see any detritus! Thank god. They seem to have phased out now that the tank is maturing. John taught me to be extra careful about anything that i put into the tank.
Sapphire, thats the fish, is super super happy. I am super happy and finally able to enjoy my tank.
So, yes, I did call the best aquarium specialist for one betta fish.. I got a great private fish keeping lesson,
a happy fish,
and a new friend in John.
Thank you John!

I had been struggling with stabilizing a new freshwater tank setup for several months; while local aquarium stores tried to be helpful, no one was able to really give me good guidance. John has been super-responsive from the very first time I reached out. He’s passionate about aquariums, knows his stuff, does what he says he’s going to when he says he’s going to do it and keeps me informed every step of the way. Look no further!

John Arrived promptly on the time we agreed on, we discussed the needs of my fish, and then he proceeded to do a professional job at making sure my aquarium was decorative, clean, and most importantly, safe for my fish. Defiantly 5 stars.
