Introduction: As a Yoga Alliance-registered yoga teacher with 500-hour YogaWorks certification and more than 15 years of experience, I offer my clients private instruction on their schedule, at their own pace, in the comfort of their own space (or mine) and tailored to their unique body and individual interests and needs. According to the preference of each student, sessions with me include a combination of asana (poses), pranayama (breathing exercises), mantra (chanting), relaxation and meditation. If desired by the student, I often introduce elements of yogic philosophy, sometimes through short textual readings, and incorporate a theme into each practice. My clients enjoy and benefit from the personal attention and care afforded by our private sessions, which I teach with an emphasis on proper alignment, healthy sequencing, and breath. I provide my students with articulate instructions, demonstrations and explanations, and encouraging, compassionate verbal and hands-on (if desired) support. I have worked with and welcome students of all levels and ages. Originally drawn to yoga in order to increase my range of motion, stability and equanimity as a modern dancer, I myself am a case study in the power of yoga to transform the body and mind. My clients are encouraged by the strong example I set for them, by the physical and mental health and well-being the ongoing practice of yoga has given me. Imagine going for your annual physical exam and learning that your posture has improved so much that you've grown 3/4 of an inch taller! That happened to me after a decade of yoga. Imagine how tall you could be standing on your hands! Maybe your goal is to overcome tightness or injury so you can touch your toes without bending your knees for the first time in your life, or perhaps you've always wanted to be able to do a headstand with aplomb and grace. Maybe you'd like to learn to subdue your fears and anxiety through mindful breathing and relaxation. I can guide you toward such growth and change. The ancient goal of yoga is freedom of the body and mind, of ease and peace in each present moment through a balance of focused strength and suppleness in both movement and stillness. You are only as young as your spine--and mind--are flexible! Yoga's greatest gifts are arguably not physical; they are, rather, increased self-awareness and mental equanimity in facing the relentless challenges of life. If your interest is purely physical, however, yoga will serve you well. The practice of yoga is good for almost everyone and transformative for many. What a joy it is to share yoga's powerful benefits on a one-on-one basis with my students. I look forward to the prospect of meeting and working with you.

I began working with Kirsten about four months ago. I'm a beginner and a very lapsed yoga practitioner. I never liked yoga before and now I can't wait for our twice weekly sessions. Kirsten is amazingly well informed and so patient - I've already noticed changes - less hip and back pain and more flexibility. I should add that I'm a 74 year old woman. Anyone working with Kirsten is a lucky soul!!!

For the past 2 years, I have benefited from Kirsten's dedicated and passionate yoga instruction. Kirsten has many gifts, not the least of which include patient, calm, and intellectual guidance that has allowed me to benefit from yoga both on and off the mat. Through her teachings, I have become much more flexible, strong and confident in all of my activities and now understand the ways in which yoga can strengthen the mind and body. I could not endorse Kirsten more highly!
