FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It depends on the experience level and goals of the student, along with how long they want their lessons to be. I readily take into account financial situations because I come from a low-income family. I am open and very understanding about price. Please don't be shy about discussing it!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I ask what their goals are in detail before we begin. If they already already have some experience, I will ask them to play for me. After this first play-through, we will discuss what they played and/or choose a new piece to learn. I keep my students' long-term goals in mind. If they don't have specific goals, I don't put excessive, stressful pressure on them to find one.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been playing violin for 18 years. I have a Bachelor's in violin performance from the wonderful Oberlin Conservatory, a Master's in Boston and am now pursuing a doctorate at the University of Iowa. I've won competitions, soloed with and played in orchestras, and was awarded the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artists Award scholarship to expand my education. I've completed pedagogy classes at both the collegiate and graduate levels. I also took a historical performance course playing on a Baroque violin for a year. I was employed as a tutor at a junior high, a pre-K-to-2nd grade school and at the Boys and Girls Club for over three years (all of which required a background check) and had the time and energy to teach violin during that time as well.
