- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to engage with new clients first by email to get a good idea of the services they're looking for and what their training goals might be. The next step is to set up a consultation/evaluation with the client and their dog so I can meet them in person and we can get to work!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors in Communications with focuses in intercultural and interpersonal communications; while this may seem entirely unrelated, the skills acquired through these courses are extraordinarily useful and applicable with training dogs - and their owners - as training is really all about communicating clearly with your pup. Additionally, I've apprenticed under other dog trainers and have educated myself through a variety of courses, books, webinars, and hands-on experience; I've also worked in a daycare and boarding kennel. I am a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), and am currently studying to achieve the CPDT-KA title. As important, I am extremely active in dog rescue and have had the opportunity to work hands-on with hundreds of dogs, which have provided me with the ability to handle a wide variety of dog breeds, sizes, and temperaments. Truthfully, the dogs themselves are the greatest educators - each and every dog teaches me something new and valuable that has helped another dog down the line.
