Introduction: Over a decade of experience teaching, including college-level music theory, as well as two music degrees with a concentration in jazz. Many years as a worship leader in church. I enjoy the "Aha!" moments that students have when what they desire to do, what they love to do, and what they are able to do musically all come together! Thankfully, over the years, I have had many of these moments with my students. I also love being a part of people's wedding day. I have written custom songs, had a blast, and made lasting memories with people on their special day.

Josh has instructed all three of my children to varying degrees (Ages 13-25 years). He is knowledgable, engaging, encouraging and helpful. They have enjoyed him as person and learned much! He invests in his students as individuals. It's not a one size fits all music education with Josh! He is quite talented and varied in his repertoire of skills. This enables a smooth transition if the student wants to try something new, whether it be a new instrument or song writing. You can't go wrong with Josh! :)

Josh is an amazing guitar teacher! He is very knowledgeable in music and is qualified to teach anything from beginner guitar to professional. He has been a joy to work with, someone who can get along with anyone. Josh helped me prepare for my college guitar audition, (which was the primary reason I sought out a teacher this past year) and it went very well, I was awarded lots of scholarship money and was accepted into the music program in Nashville I applied for! He has been so helpful already that I have decided to keep taking lessons from him weekly to better prepare myself for music school this Fall, when I go down to Nashville for the start of my Freshman year! Thank you Josh, you have been a blessing!

I can not say enough great things about my experience with Mr. Honken. I started about 3 months ago and have already learned so much. In addition to inching towards getting over my fear of singing in front people, I am also learning so much about the language of music. We move at pace that's comfortable for me, but also pushes me to pick it up more rapidly. I feel valued as a person, not just a client. I plan on continuing my lessons for as long as possible! Very very very worth it!!!
