Laurence King is, in my experience, one of the most intelligent and vital people I have had the privilege to meet - and from whom to learn.
I am studying French in order to learn to speak and to read and to absorb as much as possible of the culture as is embodied in the language. Laurence has been, in private lessons with me successively: a patient listener and instructor when I could hardly utter two French words in succession; a willing collaborator in my search for the spirit on the French language; a very sympathetic coach in my reading of the literature - Camus, for example; and a ready and willing interpreter in my almost constant search for the subtler meanings of what I read in the French press - exchanges between us that go on from time-to-time by email.
Laurence's fearsome "stylo-rouge" is ever ready to set me straight - whether it is in clearing up contextual misunderstandings or simple grammatical matters.
I am always refreshed at her grasp of things and her sense of humor in letting-me-down easily when corrections are in order.
I am always rewarded in asking Laurence's help.

For me, it all began with a desire to take a sabbatical in Provence six years ago, despite my knowing only a few words of French. I found Laurence as my teacher and my journey was off on the right foot. Laurence is so thoroughly French - articulate, elegant, with a sharp mind and wit. Not only is she a wonderfully warm and encouraging teacher, but she helped me in so many ways, from finding the perfect place to stay in Provence to explaining the myriad nuances of the culture. Laurences love of languages and of writing takes center stage in her life, a life brimming with happiness and possibility.
