Introduction: My name is Jessica Miller and I am a professional equestrian in the east bay with students who come from San Francisco, Berkeley, Lamorinda, Walnut Creek, Martinez and in between. I specialize in English riding. I teach the principles of dressage which is the classical training of correct aids and position which together form the harmony and beauty of riding. I welcome riders of all levels from first timers to advanced. I create with you a personalized program to suite your goals, whether you want a relaxing weekend hobby or to compete in horse shows. I have very safe and reliable school horses available for my adult students and have horses of all levels for beginners through advanced riders. We have an excellent established youth program and have many safe ponies and horses available to teach children on. I teach English riding, both dressage and jumping. I have over 20 years of experience as a professional and competitor. I earned my USDF Gold Medal which is a very prestigious performance award. I teach and train at a barn named Rancho del Lago. It is a very friendly barn and many people have told me how welcoming the atmosphere is here. I love to teach any level rider. I meet you where you are! Visiting the Bay area from Europe for a few months, reading reviews helped me to find the right place to ride, so I think it is only fair that I write one now. The stables at Rancho del Lago are located in the gorgeous hills of Briones. The facility is great and well-run, and the people I meet at the barn (whether staff, farrier, vets or other riders) are all very friendly and welcoming. The people at Rancho del Lago take excellent care of their horses. The school horses are safe and well trained. The cherry on the top of all this is the teacher, Jessica Miller, with whom I take dressage lessons. As an adult rider who has had a very late start at riding, but who is eager to make the best of it and wants to be challenged in a safe context, I found in Jessica the perfect mentor. I feel that, with her, I am making progress at a fast pace. She manages to be a great confidence builder, while pushing you to do your best during each lesson. A great rider herself, she always gives you the right hint at the right moment, while trying to turn you into an independant rider. Every day is a learning opportunity that is never missed and you come away from her lessons having learned different aspects of riding in every type of day, or situation. Also, Jessica is very professional and focused during the lesson, but in a relaxed and smiling manner. Riding with her feels so good!

One of Jessica's talents as a trainer is her ability to describe things in different ways, which is crucial for a sport where you often need to have someone describe how what you're trying to do should feel, before you've ever felt it. She knows when to push you to get a little more from you. Jessica cares deeply about the safety of her horses and her students, which is something I value very highly in a trainer as a US Pony Club graduate myself. I also really appreciate her experience as a USDF bronze, silver, and gold medalist, both in terms of competition advice and in how to manage moving up the levels, even if you don't want to compete. She knows a lot about what judges are looking for and how to optimally show off a horse at a show. But she also focuses on correct fundamentals and thinks about the "long game" with her horses, allowing them to be active, happy horses for a long time to come. I'm very happy I found Jessica Miller Dressage!

Jessica is an amazing horse back riding teacher! She was able to quickly rebuild my riding abilities and confidence within a few lessons. Most importantly, Jessica is able to create a positive learning environment for her students with safe horses and quality instruction/feedback. We had gone to several barns/ranches trying to find a good fit for my 9 year old daughter. Jessica has been by far the best fit in terms of teaching about the basics of horse care, basic horse riding, and now training for shows. She is able to balance just the right amount of demands for my daughter to achieve success and mixing in praise where needed. My daughter's love of horses and riding has grown tremendously. As an added benefit my daughter general confidence in life has grown along the way. We owe a special thanks to Jessica.

I've been riding with Jessica for over 10 years. I've gone to other barns and tried various trainers before, simply no one else compares. Jessica's teaching style allows for better understanding of difficult concepts as well as pushing students to their greatest potencial. She is truly dedicated to teaching her students every aspect of horsemanship and takes it upon herself to educate them. A phenomenal rider as well, Jessica can get on just about any horse and make them look incredible.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge 50.00 per lesson for my teaching services. If you do not have your own horse, there is an additional charge for the use of a school horse which is 35.00 per ride for a beginner horse and 45 for the more advanced horses.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will email or text with the student to make sure they bring riding breeches or leggings along with riding boots or boots will be loaned to you if you do not have proper boots with a heel. We also provide helmet use but it is recommended that you start riding with the basic gear of boots, breeches, gloves and helmet. I will teach you how to work with the horse on the ground as well as in the saddle.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my United States Dressage Federation Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals.
