Introduction: Private, in-home training designed to fit your busy schedule. I travel to you, because I want to observe your dog in it's home environment. Lessons can be purchased individually, or packaged at a discount. Our rates for private training are among the lowest in the Lansing area. Many problems can be solved in just 1-2 training sessions. Follow-up phone consultation and special resources are included with each session. Our goal is to help you build a great relationship with your dog. Only positive reinforcement methods are used, to make training fun and dog-friendly. With over 15 years of dog training experience, we help you solve and avoid problem behaviors, and we teach you the proper management techniques to keep your dog safe and happy. Enjoy meeting new owners from all walks of life, and dealing with the many different breeds of dogs. It is also fun to watch dogs learn the new behaviors they are being taught.

First off, I don't think there are enough words to describe just how wonderful Alex was during this experience. I was going out of town for the holiday weekend and needed a pet sitter for my 2 adult cats and 2 kittens (fostering from ICAC). Alex was very responsive to my Thumbtack request and immediately made himself available by phone! He was VERY accommodating. We treat our pets like family, so I knew that we were asking for him to do a lot (4 cats is kinda annoying) and he was always so kind, considerate, understanding, and willing to go the extra mile! He texted me after each visit to give a re-cap (he also offers to just leave a summary at the end of the gig, so if you're not wanting to receive messages every day, that's fine too). He is also very thorough about getting information about the pets and their different needs (he offers a complimentary visit to get to know the animals before you book). You can tell he really knows his stuff and cares about making sure your pets are comfortable and well taken care of. Just to give a little perspective, we were in a bit of a hurry to leave and I mentioned very briefly that I had no more paper towel and that I was sorry! I came home from my trip to a whole roll of paper towel in my kitchen. When I said he goes the extra mile, I really meant it. His generosity is immediately noticeable. If you're going out of town or just looking for someone who will take extraordinary care of your pets at an extremely reasonable price, look no further than Alex at BusyPaws!

Alex was great! He asked lots of questions during the initial visit to get to know our dogs as much as possible! This made me very comfortable leaving them in his care! He was kind, courteous and worked with our schedule! I also got updates about how each visit went, will definitely be using him again!!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My standard rate for private, in-home training is $50/hour. This can be discounted by purchasing multiple sessions. I also offer a special new customer rate of $25, which includes a 30-minute interview followed by a 30-minute training session. Discounts are offered for the military, the disabled, and shelter dogs.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I offer an initial in-home 30-minute consultation at no obligation. This can be combined with an introductory 30-minute training session for $25 (but that is optional). Once the customer's training objectives have been made clear, I design a training program for accomplishing those goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from dog training school (Tarheel Canine Training, Sanford, NC) in 2001. Since that time I have trained dogs for PetsMart, PETCO, and dozens of customers in both Ohio and Michigan. I have also volunteered as a trainer for the Humane Society and Ingham County Animal Control, and have served as an Evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen program.
