Introduction: I have been teaching voice privately for over ten years, and I work with students of all ages and levels of ability, from beginner to professional, and teach ages 5 to 105! I firmly believe that you are never to old to learn. I love helping my students achieve their personal goals, and each lesson is individually tailored to meet my students' needs. You won't find "one size fits all" techniques in my studio! I teach belt as well as legit and classical vocal techniques, and am comfortable teaching in a variety of genres, including musical theater, opera, operetta, art song, pop, folk, American folk song, and jazz. I am also comfortable coaching students in rock or other genres not listed here. I firmly believe that freeing the body and the voice from tension produces the most beautiful, appealing sound, regardless of the type of music one is singing. In lessons, you can expect a strong focus on body and breath work, in addition to vocal technique and performance skills.

I have been training with Kim for over four years and have done nothing but grow from the experience. Kim is an excellent teacher that adapts to the learning needs of the student. She motivates constantly and provides encouragement when needed. Kim makes her lessons suitable for the intentions of the performer-whether someone who is participating as a hobby or someone who is training for a career. During lessons Kim creates a well-rounded student; one who knows proper technique, terminology, acting skills, and one who is able to use their skills outside of the classroom. Kim not only sculpts great performers, but good people.

I studied with Kim Lamoureux a couple of years ago. She is an excellent voice teacher who works well with students of all ages. Her musical talent, training and experience make her a highly-capable instructor. Her knowledge of music, as well as her encouraging and enthusiastic approach, keep you looking forward to each and every lesson. I always felt I learned something new during each vocal session! What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Monthly tuition is as follows: 30 minute lesson: $156 45 minute lesson: $218 60 minute lesson: $280 Student tuition is inclusive of all costs associated with studio, and goes towards individual lesson instruction time, student books and anthologies, sheet music, photocopies, karaoke tracks, bi-annual studio recitals, administration, and studio upkeep.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First lessons always begin with a brief interview, where I get to know the student and a little bit about their musical history and goals. Our lesson begins with targeted stretching to prepare the body for singing, breath work, and then a vocal warmup. Finally, we will work on a song/the student's repertoire. I use this format with all of my students, and modify it to be appropriate for all ages and levels.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my undergraduate degree in voice from Gordon College, and have a master's in opera from Longy School of Music in Cambridge. I have over a decade of experience as a professional performer and teacher, and am a board member with the Boston Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
