Introduction: Hello! I am Cheryl Lopez and I have experience teaching private flute lessons to all ages for over 10 years. I have two bachelor degrees and one of them is a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance. I enjoy sharing my love of music with a positive, encouraging style. I am a member of Music Teacher's Association of California and my students participate in recitals annually. My students have won principal chairs in their school ensembles and have won awards from local competitions such as LA City Elementary Schools Music Association (LACESMA). I have experience as a flute clinician and have worked at Clifton Middle School, Monrovia High School, Workman High School, and Notre Dame High School. I also work part time teaching band at an after school program in Glendale and work as a clinician for the Burbank Unified School District. I enjoy being an active Los Angeles freelance performer, and my experience as a performing artist includes playing in symphony orchestras, operas, musicals, chamber music, recording studios, and being a solo recitalist. I split my time between performing and private flute teaching. I love being a mentor to other flutists, young and old! A few years after obtaining my Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy from Loma Linda University, I felt a burning desire to pursue music performance. I had always been involved in performing music in various forms as a hobby since I was a child, but I came to realize how much performing gave me fulfillment and a sense of purpose. I then decided to make a career change and pursue performance as a career. In 2014, I graduated with honors from California State University, Northridge where I studied with Sandra Kipp-Iles, and earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Flute Performance. I continue to share my love of music through performing and private teaching.

My 8-years-old daugther has developed a passion of learning a wind instrument, flute in particular. Last year, we met with Ms. Cheryl at a music center and my daughter really loved her teaching. We have been having a private flute lessons with Ms. Cheryl for more than a year. Ms. Cheryl is assertive as well as providing a positive and nurturing environment. She is not only talented but also manage to create a fun but challenging lessons for kids. I can see the improvement from my daughter. Most importantly, Ms. Cheryl is a member of MTAC, so I was really happy that my daughter was able to enroll into Certificate of Merit this year. Ms. Cheryl understands that Certificate of Merit is an important program for her students. Overall, I would highly recommend Ms. Cheryl as a flute instructor because of her professionalism and good teaching attitude.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
B.S. in Occupational Therapy with 3 years working in pediatrics B.M. in Flute Performance with private teaching experience since 2009 I have been a freelance performer since 2007
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with students as young as 4 and as old as 69 and counting! I also have experience working with students with various learning disabilities. In addition, I also work as a performer at weddings (solo and string trio), in local orchestras, as a chamber music recitalist, and as a solo artist, so that gets me working with all kinds of people!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I think a good chemistry between teacher and student is important. A student should be comfortable and at ease so they are able to learn. It is important that both the teacher and student respect the relationship and do all they can to contribute to the learning environment including a teacher getting more experience and a student practicing their weekly assignments. It's a team effort.
